As a child, Ellen dreamed of writing books, acting in plays, and going on adventures. She read books, played in the dirt, and sewed herself costumes as she got older. Adulthood took over for a while and creativity took a backseat. One day she recognized the longing to write again and picked up an old story. 18 months later Child of Shadows was born.

Ellen currently lives a quiet life in North Carolina with her husband, Brian. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, spending time with friends, and watching TV. Her current dreams include owning and renovating an old house, making a full-time living off her writing, and learning to garden.

“The sun. It's never felt this way before. So nearby. So alive. So warm.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“In my dreams I saw Chiwa's hand: pale and elegant with glowing veins reaching out toward Hadithi. I wanted to warn him with a scream; to shout at him to run, but I couldn't move or speak or blink. All I could do was watch. The witch’s hand dripped with dark crimson blood, filling every crevice of her fingernails, seeping onto a stone surface.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“Death in birth, death in childhood, death in all aspects, areas, and desires. It is death that I breathe, death that I serve, and death that I live for.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“In my dreams I saw Chiwa's hand: pale and elegant with glowing veins reaching out toward Hadithi. I wanted to warn him with a scream; to shout at him to run, but I couldn't move or speak or blink. Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“You speak of shame as a beautiful thing, something to be gained because you yourself are overcome with it.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“Because someone needs to care. You don't deserve to live like this. You don't deserve to die. You deserve to have someone care enough to do everything they can to help you – even if that person is only a gutter rat like me.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“Each breath came a little faster, my lungs desperate for the oxygen I somehow believed I wasn’t getting. My skin crawled with a thousand tiny centipedes that climbed out of the surrounding salt and were now consuming me. I broke out into a cold sweat and shut my eyes, paralyzed by fear.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows

“Light has found a way because love runs deep.' The voice echoed in my ears as Einar's pulse quickened to match my own. 'Hold onto this hope. You will need it. This is who you are. Do not forget it.”
Ellen ES Ceely, Child of Shadows
