Ercilia Delancer was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States in her late teens. She graduated from Florida International University with a master degree in TESOL (Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages). Upon graduation, she joined the Peace Corps and taught high school English in Nepal (2000-2002). After a decade teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in the States, she was selected to be an English Language Fellow (ELF) and served in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan (2011-2013). Hi, Giselle:

I recall contacting you some years ago when your name came across my Facebook feed. We determined then that we didn't have any close relatives in common since I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, but most certainly our last name must have had a common origin. Originally, we spelled it "De Lancer" and also "D'Lancer" , but it was too confusing for most people, so we simplified it once we got to the United States. Thanks for contacting me about it. Cheers
