David is the published author of several books, notably the only two written exclusively about Boston's erstwhile entertainment district, Scollay Square.

This year saw the publication of Little Mister Victory, the story of co-author Tina Drzal's decades-long search for the woman who abandoned her father on VJ Day. Using cutting-edge DNA analysis and good-old-fashioned detective work (burrowing into newspaper archives, ecclesiastic and government documents) we found the mother, along with a surprise; abandoning her newborn baby was not the most shocking act of her life.

Where did the idea for my new novel come from?

Like millions of people I’ve seen the terrific Clint Eastwood movie about the 1962 escape from Alcatraz by Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers. Like millions more I have been to Alcatraz - as a tourist of course. (quick aside here - kudos to the National Park Service for creating a truly immersive experience. David Kruh answered a question about Evelyn: Does Lauren Anne Rice actually exist?? Have searched for author by that name & nothing comes up. Anyone with a different experience? I found a Lauren Rice in Arizona and wrote a letter asking where I could buy her book. That was three weeks ago. No reply
