I Am Author

Why Am I Here and Where Are You?

Love to write? Don’t know if you can become a real author? Write a book. Bam! You’re an author!
If only it were that easy. To be honest, my journey from putting words on paper (computer) to self-publishing my first book, and all the marketing before, during, and after has been, how do you say…a lot. However, it has been the most exciting and rewarding professional accomplishment I’ve ever…accomplished. Worrrrrth it!
The idea of writing a book seems simple to those of us who enjoy the written word. I know I write far better than I speak. Especially speaking in public. Ever see that person who stumbles on words, forgets what they’re saying, goes blank, turns red, starts sweating and shaking? That was me. Social anxiety has shaped much of my life, so I’m naturally drawn to letting others read what I mean instead of hearing what I mean. But even if you’re the most eloquent speaker the world has ever known, there’s something so satisfying about seeing your words in print. A book is always there, day and night. It’s convenient, manageable, travel-friendly, fits neatly on a shelf, and can be shared over and over. And over. I currently possess books that are more than 150 years old. That’s’ some longevity! But I digress. I’m trying to say if you want it, you can do it.
Whatever it is that you’ve always wanted to write, should be written. One of my favorite authors, Wayne Dyer, once said “Don’t die with your words in you”. This simple statement propelled me on a journey that, regardless of the outcome, I’ll pursue for as long and as far as it will take me. I’ve written and self-published one book thus far, and I’m hot-to-trot for book number two. What does all this mean? It means the world is waiting to hear from you! Even if your world is made up of friends and family, or, like me, those sixteen people on Goodreads who saved my book to read eventually, or those forty on Amazon who actually purchased a paperback. I admit that first step is a doozy, but we can’t get to best-seller status without having taken any steps at all.
So, get started, plug in, put in the work, learn all you can learn…sometimes the hard way, and you’ll reap the benefits, whatever you perceive the benefits to be. Put your ideas out there and see where they go. You may be surprised at the many happy returns.
