Selena Brooks was born on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, made in Pass Christian and raised in Gulfport. She graduated from Gulfport High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of South Alabama and a master’s degree in business administration from Strayer University. She currently serves the Federal Government in a civilian capacity as an employee of the Department of Defense.

As a Mississippi native, Brooks is aware of the negative perceptions and ill-informed commentary at mere mention of the land lost between Louisiana and Alabama, and her goal as a writer is to give a realistic description of the Mississippi experience and its residents through the underexposed positive voice of the African Ameri ...more
