Walter, thanks for going easy on me, she said with a touch of sarcasm.
The following is going to sound sarcastic, but it isn't meant that way.

If you're interested, start. That's where it all begins. Write on a computer, and write on old-fashioned paper at the in-betweens of this to-go life. Write when your bored. Write what you see or experience. Write about the people that cross your path. Write letters. Write reviews of books. Write a blog. Write encouragements. Write your ideas. (Don't edit, because that's a different part of your brain.)

Let the joy of being gifted the desire and freedom to write overcome you, and people the world with your words.
But I digress. How to write a book: read what others have written about writing.

"Stories are the most important thing we humans can create."
(Shawn Coyne and Steven Pressfield, The Story Grid)

"Boil your project down, and start with your essence sentence. What is the most important thing?"
(Lynnette Bonner, Kim Martinez, Agnes Lawless, Amy Letinsky, Dennis Brooke, Erica Vetsch, Gigi Murfit..., The Christian Writer's Coach)

"There’s a standard rule for creativity: the best way to get a good idea is to come up with lots of them, without judging, and later pick the best ones. Don’t be afraid to write down even absurd, crazy notions. One of them may end up not being so crazy after all."
(James Scott Bell, 27 Fiction Writing Blunders - And How Not to Make Them!)

"Focus on a theme and/or truth that fires you up."
(Michelle Griep, Writer Off the Leash)

"Dear Lord, I sense you’re nudging me to write. I’ve resisted, made excuses: “I can’t write. I don’t have anything to say. No one will read my writing.” Now it’s a matter of obedience. If you ask me to write, I will. Where do I begin? How do I get organized? Please bring mentors, encouragers, and others further along the writing path to help me."
(The Christian Writer's Coach)

Acknowledge your 'why' and there's no stopping you:
"Whether you know it or not, your desire to write comes from the urge to not just be “creative,” it’s a need (one every human being on earth has) to help others."
(Shawn Coyne and Steven Pressfield, The Story Grid)

So, Walter, what drives me daily to write is the joy that God has given me an idea and joy in the creating. Created people, all of us, create something. Words are my thing. Words seem to be yours.
Let's beat back the darkness by letting our light shine before others and glorify our Father in heaven.(less)

My Last Great Drunk

description
Thirty cans of kidney beans and tuna fish stocked my basement shelves. Gallons of water and pounds of rice brightened all things tinned.

It was New Years’ Eve, 1999.

Newscasters whipped the world into a frenzy by questioning if computers could handle the digit change from 1999 to 2000. Grid systems could fail, many reported. The stock markets would crash. Airplanes might fall out of the sky. Store u Read more of this blog post »

Okay, you have to admit, this is a fetching cover. I was attracted to the book because of it. The fact that there’s a cowgirl in it doesn’t hurt either. But honestly, Jo wasn’t a "cowgirl", she was a horse girl. Her family bre" Read more of this review »

Rachel Held Evans
“As I saw how powerful and affirming this ancient blessing could be, I decided it was time for Christian women to take back Proverbs 31. Somewhere along the way, we surrendered it to the same people who invented airbrushing and Auto-Tune and Rachel Ray. We abandoned the meaning of the poem by focusing on the specifics, and it became just another impossible standard by which to measure our failures. We turned an anthem into an assignment, a poem into a job description.”
Rachel Held Evans, A Year of Biblical Womanhood
