As a seasoned leader, pastor, author, and outdoors enthusiast, I'm driven by a passion to empower individuals to thrive. With roots in South Africa, my journey has been a rich tapestry of experiences - from the rugged beauty of growing up on a cattle farm to serving as senior leader of a church in Durbanville, Cape Town, for over two decades. My heart beats for authentic leadership, meaningful connections, and unlocking human potential.

Through my writing, I aim to inspire, uplift, and challenge the status quo. My books, including "Journey: A Traveller's Guide to Leadership," "Unshackled," and "Finding My Lost Voice," reflect my commitment to empowering others to live life to the fullest. I'm fueled by a deep love for African wisdom, as refl

I live in a complex post-modern world where in many ways the world seems to be plummeting into further desecration. And yes, public enemy number one happens to be those who are, as the title so bluntly puts it, White men, who have lived long enough to have profited from a patriarchal society and have been indoctrinated by a racist landscape, both subtle and blatant. Add the fact that Basil is a Christian, and he immediately qualified for ‘cancelling’.” To be fair to Zara, her review of Unshackled was both complimentary and generous. Her words affirmed me whilst again leading me to ask, “Have I lost my voice?” and “How can I find it again?” (less)

Every time I think of something I could include, I write it down. After a while a picture begins forming and I can write again. If I am really struggling I focus on cleaning up what I have already written. Working with existing material often stimulates creativity again.(less)

The Big Why

Earlier today I had the privilege to be part of a Q&A session relating to my new book, Finding My Lost Voice. I was asked a bunch of insightful questions. Questions, when answered, reflect a grasp and understanding of the big ‘Why?’ of the book?

The first is, how have people responded to it? To be transparent, I am not surprised by the responses I have received.

In the Preface I allude to possible Read more of this blog post »

Generally, I don’t read romance. But Collins was looking for reviews, so I thought I’d help. Emma writes beautifully and descriptively. Her title, Love That Lingers, captures exactly how the book unfolds: a picture o

“Most ordinary people ... want to do their jobs, love their people, and live in peace with others. Add kindness to the mix and you have a picture of beauty. I may be different to you, believe differently from what you do, speak a different language to your home language, or have a different bank balance to yours, but when I act kindly toward you, I am bridging a divide between your world and mine.”
Basil Sparks, FINDING MY LOST VOICE: By Acting Justly, Loving Kindness and Walking Humbly with God

“Power is a dangerous drug, a thirst that is never quenched. It promises but it takes more than it gives. Friends are divided by it, wars are fought over it, churches split because of it, and Satan will tempt you to sell your soul for it.”

“A morally confused culture will speak in a morally confused way.”

“The God who is big is so big that He could become small and in becoming small He could reconnect us, through His life and sacrifice, to a big God.”
Basil Sparks, UNSHACKLED: Living the Life I was Destined For

“Being trapped by past events or circumstances is like walking backwards into the future. By walking backwards whilst trying to move forward will make it impossible to grasp new opportunities.”
Basil Sparks, UNSHACKLED: Living the Life I was Destined For

“Kindness steps over racial prejudice to see the human being on the other side of colour. Kindness identifies, in each of us, the need to be loved, respected, and validated. And when an act of kindness does that, it no longer matters that I am White, and you are Black. Kindness steps across all hostility; racial, religious, language, etc. It is a powerful weapon that changes communities, one kind act at a time.”

“It is time to own up, grow up, and man up. It is time to step out of the shadows of apathy and step into the adventure of being a man who can be counted on, a man who reflects a godly character, and a man who can lead and love sacrificially.”

message 1: by Jimi

Jimi Fawehinmi Hello Basil,
I hope this message finds you in good spirits.
This is Jimi.
I’ve finally had the chance to read your book, "A Traveller's Guide to Leadership," and I’ve posted a review on both Goodreads and Amazon.
It’s incredibly revealing, thought-provoking, and Christ-centred.
Moreover, it’s very relatable.
Thank you,
Jimi
