Two things I love to do the most include graphic design and writing. I was an editor at a publishing company for several years; I saw the graphic designers at work and thought, ‘I’d like to do that.’ So I went to art school.

I love to read, write and draw. Yes, I am a creative nerd type. I like to read all kinds of books, but science fiction and fantasy is my guilty pleasure.

I can't say I am passionate about one more than the other. I believe there are benefits of having knowledge in both because they related and it comes in handy for book projects. I can write and design my own book ... I just take off my writer's hat and put on my designer's cap!(less)

I'll write that one sentence and then I'll just keep going. I think telling myself one sentence is enough removes the psychological barriers of "I have to write pages and pages and pages."(less)

Thoughts: I’m so proud of my niece and nephew. Over the last few years, they walked down the aisles of their respective schools and received diplomas in their fields. I’m happy to say my niece is a practicing occupational therapist, and my nephew is a sales associate in commercial real estate. It seems like yesterday I babysat them. But now that they have received degrees in their v

This dystopian story shows not a battle on the outside, no armies of zombies or mutants battling the remainder of humans, but a battle on the inside. Throughout The Island of Last Things, Sloley expresses statement after statement a

Jonathan Safran Foer
“Sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I'm not living.”
Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Jane Austen
“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Chuck Palahniuk
“The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on. If you can change the way people think. The way they see themselves. The way they see the world. You can change the way people live their lives. That's the only lasting thing you can create.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Choke

Frank Herbert
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune
