Writing after trauma
To say 2023 has kicked my tail so far would be an understatement.
I'm normally a private person who fights my battles in private and paints a smile on my face for the world to see. But this time, I had to be more open. I have readers looking forward to my new book - a book that has been delayed by MONTHS.
They deserved to know why.
Since the very end of December, I have dealt with major home repairs, beloved pets dying, tragedy within my family, faced a beloved uncle (who is more like a bonus dad) being diagnosed with terminal cancer, and nearly dying myself.
An infection nearly killed me and has taken 2 months of battling just to feel "normal" again. That alone would have been enough to drag me down, but everything else on top of it made it hard to get out of bed most days, let alone be motivated to write.
But here I am. Back at the keyboard, and still moving forward.
I guess I'm writing this for a few reasons.
1. To let everyone who's wondered where book 3 is know why it's been delayed, and that it's still coming.
But more importantly, 2. To let everyone out there know that when life knocks you down - then keeps kicking you while you're down - DON'T GIVE UP!!!! Take the time you need. Rest, recover, heal. Then stand up and keep fighting for what you believe in. To fulfill your hopes and dreams.
I'm not dead yet. So, I'm going to keep following MY dreams, and keep writing.
And I am so, SO thankful for my readers and followers who have been patiently waiting and understanding my delays.

Hero You Want to Hate
As I work on writing Rap Battle of Wits, I can't help but say - THIS IS HARD! Garrett is such an a-hole to Savannah! But deep down, he's really not a bad guy. There's just been a misunderstanding of sorts that causes this battle of wits to come to a head. But honestly, writing a character that you want to HATE, but wind up loving in the end is so difficult. But I want to do this character justice.
I can't WAIT to share this enemies-to-lovers story with you, and I hope you love these characters as much as I do!

Music and Writing
As I'm sitting here, trying to reach today's word count on book 3 of Songs of Cypress Bayou, I find myself powering through with the help of music.
Music was always a way I've expressed myself, a way of getting out emotions. When I couldn't find the words to express how I feel, I could always find a song that matched my feelings. Whether it was the lyrics, the beat and sound, or both. Music is always there.
I'm very eclectic in my music. I can sing any country song, scream along with rock music, impress people with my rapping abilities, and can wail along with all the great 80s classics. Classic oldies overwhelm me with memories of dancing on my daddy's feet when I was little (we even danced to an oldies song as our father-daughter dance at my wedding)
This was where I came up with the idea for the Songs of Cypress Bayou series. So many people relate to different genres of music. So, each of my heroines has a favorite. Each book centers on a specific genre of music and has song titles weaved throughout the books that would go along with what the Hero or heroine is experiencing or feeling at the moment. It isn't to steal or piggyback on someone else's hard work of writing the songs. It is to enhance the experience and help the readers FEEL what the characters are feeling in a way only music can communicate. There are times I wish I could put the actual lyrics in the book, but unfortunately, I can't due to licensing laws, only the title and artist are allowed.
But fear not, I plan on creating playlists that can be downloaded and listened to while reading the books, and all songs and lyrics can be searched online and listened to if you REALLY want to feel what our characters are feeling in the meantime.
So, now I have to ask - do you have a certain song that is your go-to when you feel a certain way? If so, tell me what it is! (I'm always looking for new music to listen to!)
