16 year old me would have read this and thought it was romantic. 16 year old me was also an idiot.

This book was a big NO for me.

We’ve been taught competition is how we win. This book shows why that’s not always true (and what to do instead). A much-needed reframe… one I wish I would’ve had sooner!

“Fake it ’til you make it.” I’m not a big fan of faking anything and hate this advice.23 This may seem like semantics, but I think the difference is of the utmost importance. I’d encourage you instead to “Choose it until you feel it.” Choose confidence over and over again, minute by minute if you need to, and keep choosing it until the feeling catches up. As you do this, you’ll begin to gather more evidence of your awesomeness with each instance of choosing confidence, and you’ll build that pride and trust in yourself, which will make it easier to be confident.”
Nicole Kalil, Validation Is For Parking: How Women Can Beat the Confidence Con

“Feeling the need to perform and be perfect forces us to give away our power to whomever or whatever we’re performing for. Like junkies seeking our next fix, we find ourselves on a perpetual hunt for fresh validation. We need that next compliment, promotion, achievement, relationship, or result in order to feel worthy. We need something or someone outside of ourselves to tell us we’re okay in order for us to believe it. The opportunity we all have, and what I’m encouraging you to consider, is to separate our confidence from any external source and reclaim trust in ourselves”
Nicole Kalil, Validation Is For Parking: How Women Can Beat the Confidence Con

“Confidence is an inside job. Real, unshakeable trust is not about what anything looks like. It’s about what it is.”
