J.E. Erickson fell in love with horror and fantasy at an early age. The first story he wrote was at age 11 and was about a child walking home from school to discover his own gravestone. He still thinks about it when referring to himself in third person.

He currently writes horror and fantasy stories, and lives in an old house in the Midwestern United States with a nerdy soap maker, two spoiled dogs, and a (potentially) possessed vegetable garden.

His debut novel "Offerings to the Flower Moon: The Tale of the Abrams Witch" released in 2022. You should totally read it.

I think most writer's block comes from places of self-doubt, lack of preparation, and not feeling like you're asking the right questions of your characters. At least for me it's these things.

What I do is just freewrite. I have a document that exists solely for me to smear word vomit upon. I kill characters, give them their deepest desires, change them in some fundamental way -- anything I can do to discover who they are in a little more depth. It's all stream of consciousness, no subject too taboo, not worried about editing content. It's helped put me in a workable headspace, as well as generate ideas and characters for other stories. If you don't find what you consider your acceptable level of failure on your project (labor of love or otherwise) you can find yourself spinning your wheels on it forever.

Finish what you write. Write something else. (less)

Lost in the Dark and Other Excursions by John Langan
""Around us, the air is laden with the conversation and laughter of our fellow diners, but I am talking to you, directly to you, telling you a story that is only for you."

J.E. Erickson and 1 other person liked Pamela's review of Rouge:
Rouge by Mona Awad
"Mona Awad definitely knows how to write a dreamlike story where you aren’t sure what’s real or if the FMC is delusional. This is a beauty horror critiquing the whitewashing of beauty standards. Many references to Snow White including the struggle bet" Read more of this review »
Dirt You Shall Become by Karen Lykkebo
"This was a fun anthology-- I love the unique theme of garden horror. For me not all of the stories felt completely engaging, although Murder, She Grew was fantastic and a great example of how skillfully Karen Lykkebo can write. Worth checking out as " Read more of this review »
Queer Little Nightmares by David Ly
"Queer Little Nightmares, an anthology of monstrous fiction, is most-definitely twisted but not in any way nightmare-ish: it's charming and endearingly grotesque. The bad dreams invented by the writers and poets touch on resonant truths with a horrifi" Read more of this review »
