J.E. Erickson fell in love with horror and fantasy at an early age. The first story he wrote was at age 11 and was about a child walking home from school to discover his own gravestone. He still thinks about it when referring to himself in third person.

He currently writes horror and fantasy stories, and lives in an old house in the Midwestern United States with a nerdy soap maker, two spoiled dogs, and a (potentially) possessed vegetable garden.

His debut novel "Offerings to the Flower Moon: The Tale of the Abrams Witch" released in 2022. You should totally read it.

I think most writer's block comes from places of self-doubt, lack of preparation, and not feeling like you're asking the right questions of your characters. At least for me it's these things.

What I do is just freewrite. I have a document that exists solely for me to smear word vomit upon. I kill characters, give them their deepest desires, change them in some fundamental way -- anything I can do to discover who they are in a little more depth. It's all stream of consciousness, no subject too taboo, not worried about editing content. It's helped put me in a workable headspace, as well as generate ideas and characters for other stories. If you don't find what you consider your acceptable level of failure on your project (labor of love or otherwise) you can find yourself spinning your wheels on it forever.

Finish what you write. Write something else. (less)

J.E.’s Recent Updates

Going Live by Amity Grey
"The depravity, the incest, and the sheer grossness didn't bother me. The last 1/4 of the book made me be like... WTF is this? I felt like the story was pretty solid up until this point, but the ending almost felt like they phoned it in. There were so" Read more of this review »
The Whisper that Replaced God by Timothy Wolff
"Grabbed this after I saw a glowing review from a friend, then read the premise. Sounded really good. In theory.

Revolver by Michael Patrick Hicks
"It's always a little nerve-wracking, reading a fellow author's works while also being connected on a book reviewing platform (say...oh, I don't know...like Goodreads?) but I actually friended Michael Patrick Hicks based on some of his incisive review" Read more of this review »
Dell Giant The Beatles No 1 Sept-Nov 1964 by Unknown Author
"If you're looking for early-era Beatles propaganda that virtually erases Pete Best and completely erases Stu Sutcliffe and George Martin, and utterly sanitizes the Beatles and those around them...
