The Of Shepherds and Mages series has nothing explicit happening between characters 'on camera,' but occasional frank discussions between them about sex, anal sex, sexual assault, incest and slavery. If your teen already knows these exist in the world, then there will be nothing to shock them.

My short stories tend to be more explicit and can include recreational drug use, explicit sex scenes, gory battles and characters with very strange kinks.(less)

Anyone else had their first brush with literature at the Black Library?

When I was 10, I struggled with words. I loved books, but only when my father would read them to me. Children’s classics like The Silver Sword passed under my nose, but I gleaned nothing more than a vague sense of what they were about (even Sally the Seagull pushed me beyond my tolerance for frustration). I had no idea this was Read more of this blog post »

The author’s talent oozes out of every sentence, a very fine work indeed. This collection of short stories is by turns comic and tragic, united by the theme of the impossibility of knowing truth. Tyll, the titular jester who intrudes in most of the s ...more

"This book was a little weird to get into. It was maybe a more serious version of Magic Tree House with a full plot with real stakes involved. There were some minor editorial errors that were noticeable. The ending was also very predictable. This didn" Read more of this review »

I played this through quite a few times, finally succeeding with an amazing initial stats roll and liberal use of the finger-shaped save point. Thing is I didn’t really enjoy it, I was just being bloody minded. Very much a complex dungeon to be unrav ...more

An interesting local history - still the 'go-to' book for Bardney despite its age. Though more a collection of history snippets than a chosevive story about the village. No historical map, which always drops these books a star in my opinion. ...more

A well written book about the darkest moment in human history. I liked the characters and the way their lives of domesticity abruptly, brutally crashes into the reality of Dachu, followed by the iota of solace they find in each other. For the most pa ...more

As niche books go, this has to be one of the most niche! But it's a fact that something as simple as how people went to the loo, as little as 100 years ago, can be a complete mystery. This book is a surprisingly entertaining read, filled with anecdot ...more
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
"This was a fantastic book, really great story and characters has some really complex issues it tackles while remaining relevant, this is much better than the film as expected. The build up and suspense is great and is a hard book to put down."
