Gay Life in 1990s Colombia

The Pipeline opens with the kidnapping and exile of Tomás Moreno to the village of La Corona in the far northeast of Colombia. The reason for this was Tomás’s public openness about his homosexuality. The first few chapters of the novel are set in 1993, and Tomás’s decision to live an “out” existence would indeed have be controversial.
