Crisman Strunk is an English and History teacher at the high school level and a professor at a local university. He is also the author of novels such as A Grave Every Mile and the upcoming All the Glory is Gone in the John Holmes series and A Hard Frost in the Gaol County Mystery series. He has loved reading and writing all his life. His family and friends have been “blessed” with comics, Star Trek technical manuals (big during his awkward middle school years), poems of excruciating badness, short stories, and novels throughout the years. He has also published some of these for the world at large. Throughout this reading and writing adventure, mysteries and thrillers have always been a favorite.

Another good entry in this series. This series reminds me of Chris Offut's Mick Hardin series (or maybe that series reminds me of this one). In either case, good storytelling on crime in a rural setting. I tried to do the same thing in my A Hard Fros ...more

I bought some of these issues off the spinner rack at my local Piggly Wiggly and enjoyed them. I wanted to see how they held up.

Obviously, they are a product of their time (the late 70s) and followed the conventions of the day (a lot of panels per p

Not the type of book I normally read anymore (the same could be said of the 7 Deaths...) but one I really enjoyed. Maybe it is the type of book I read anymore because it is a mystery. A dystopian/apocalyptic novel that bends genres like taffy. Whatev ...more

Another good book in the series. I don't believe I even read these for the plot, though they are generally good in that area as well, but for the "bromance" between Hap and Leonard. Their relationship and interplay are what make the series. ...more

This one was a bit of a slow burn for me. At first, I wasn't sure if I would complete it or not. But, as I kept reading, the story began to hold my interest until I was racing to the end. An interesting plot that was different from the norm, and a ch ...more

I thought that the Marcos Effect, while not a bad novel, was a bit of a false step in the Department Q series. That series is back on form with the Hanging Girl. Adler-Olsen does his normal good job of having us follow the detectives in one narrative ...more
