Dr. Michal Vašečka (1972) has B.A. (1993), M.A. (1995), PhDr. and Ph.D. (2004) in sociology from Masaryk University in Brno. As a visiting scholar he operated at the New School University in New York (1996-1997) and at the University of London (1998), in 2008-2009 he lectured at the Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Since September 2002 he operates as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University in Brno and in 2005 - 2011 also as a researcher at the Institute for Research in Reproduction and Integration of Society. Since 2005 Michal Vašečka lectures also at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the Comenius University Bratislava. Dr. Vašečka served as an assistant at the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia in 1991 – 1992, as a researcher and executive director at the Documentation Center for the Research of Slovak Society in 1991 – 1995. From 1995 - 1996 he worked as a researcher at the InfoRoma Foundation and a legal advisor for the UNHCR Bratislava. In 1995 - 1996 he was lecturing on Public Policy Analysis at Academia Istropolitana, Institute for Advanced Studies, in 1997 - 1998 he was working at the Open Society Foundation as a program coordinator.

In 1999 - 2005 he has worked at the Slovak think-tank Institute of Public Affairs as a researcher and since January 2000 as a program director on expert analysis of the Slovak transformation process with a focus on national minorities and the state of civil society in Slovakia. He has been a consultant for the World Bank in 2000-2008 and in 2011-2012. Dr. Vašečka cooperated with numerous international organizations and research institutions, such as the Hoover Institute (1993-1999), American Council of Learned Societies (1999-2000), Open Society Institute (1997-2000), International Organization for Migration (2000-2001), UNDP (2001-2002), European Center for Minority Issues (2005-2006), Forschungsinstitut zur Zukunft der Arbeit (2006-2007), Institute for Minority Rights, EURAC Bolzano (2007-2009), British Council Bratislava (2008-2009), GHK London (2010; 2012), and Navreme Prague (2011).

Dr. Michal Vašečka is a member of the International Society for Third Sector Research (since 2000), member of ESA (since 2005), ISA (since 2006), AAASS (since 2006) a ASN (since 2008). He served also a member of the Advisory Board of the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities (2001-2006), member of the Advisory Board of the National Democratic Institute for Programs of Roma Minority Political Inclusion in Slovakia (since 2005), member of the Advisory Committee of Partners for Democratic Change for Roma integration program of the USAID (2003-2006), member of the ad hoc expert group for the review of studies and researches of aliens and their communities in the Czech Republic under the auspices of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (2005-2009). Dr. Vašečka is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Zvůle práva - Prague based association (since 2008). Since 2007 he is a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor Bonn and since 2010 Dr. Vašečka serves as a non-resident research associate at the European Centre for Minority Issues in Flensburg. Since 2013 he is a member of the Executive Board of the Platform for Improvement of Health Status of Disadvantaged Groups. Since 2014 Michal Vašečka serves as a Head of Executive Board of the League of Human Rights, Brno.

Since 2010 Michal Vašečka is a member of the Board of the Fulbright Commission in Slovakia (chairman of the Board since 2012). In 2010-2012 he was a member of the APVV (Agency for the Research and Development of the Slovak republic) Board for social sciences.
