Today kicks off National Park Week, and my personal celebration with my wife has included Yellowstone, Great Sand Dunes, Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, and Grand Canyon National Parks. America’s public lands are an amazing asset, allowing any citizen access to hike, fish, camp, kayak, or just drive through and sightsee.

How many states does the Who Pooped series span? Twenty, including the new book coming out in 2027!

Substitute teaching was an interesting side gig for a while. I recently came across some notes I made about the experience. Some may be amusing, others informational.

Oh, how we obsess over the smallest details in our books. It all needs to feel cohesive to readers. But does it really? Building a believable economy for your fantasy world is good. Infodumping it and turning your book into a treatise on economics? Not so good.

The Grand Canyon edition of my Who Pooped in the Park series was just awarded 2026 Book of the Year Award in the Fun Educational Nature Books category by Creative Child Magazine!

I'm excited to announce that I just signed the contract for my 21st Who Pooped in the Park book: the first all-new book in the series since Central Park. Tt will cover three parks: Badlands National Park (South Dakota), Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota), and Makoshika State Park (Montana).

I really enjoyed being the guest on Episode 13 of Red Lodge: The Podcast this week. In this episode, titled "Bounds of Magic, Myths of Tea," host Jason Reimer and I talked about everything from books to travel.

I've been wanting to say this for soooooo long: Who Pooped in the Park?—¡Ahora en español! Well, technically I can't say that quite yet. Let me just say pronto ("soon") instead of ahora ("now").

Okay, the cover is done and the interior pages are done. Time to sit back and chill, right? No. Now comes the headache of getting the book ready for release. Here are my experiences with the paperback, hardcover, and ebook, all across the distribution world.

I've gotten a lot of questions about book cover design over the years, and even written a few blog posts about it. For my newest book, The Bounds of Magic, I decided to document the process. Hopefully, it will interest my readers and be informative for new authors.
