I'm an indie author who's about to self-publish my first novel, Red Haven, by 2026. This is the first story that I'd completed—that is to say, the one that didn't end up in the trash can. Although it's intended to be part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a standalone novel. I plan to keep this theme recurrent in my future publications related to this series.
Due to the nature of the novel, please understand that there are, and will be, graphic depictions of violence, sex, and mental health issues.
The last thing I'd want is for anybody to experience any triggers due to something I wrote initially for entertainment.
With that being said, I hope you enjoy.

“Prison felt like a country within a country—it had its own laws, its own communities, its own politics, and its own cuisine. Not that I'd suggest anyone sample it.”
Ray Bloom, Red Haven

“Some people are like cups; you shake them enough, and whatever's inside spills out. Sure, it'll create an inconvenient mess, but it'll stay manageable.
Others are built like soda cans. You can shake them to your heart's content, and you'll be fine, until the tab snaps. Then the real mess explodes in your face.
And at that moment, I popped.”
Ray Bloom, Red Haven

“Sadly, the only part of me that functioned at the time wasn't the one between my ears. It was the one between my legs.”
Ray Bloom, Red Haven

“I knew we should've talked—set boundaries, said something. But I was too far gone to stop it.”

“Sometimes it wasn't even a choice, like that one day I got approached by Skinny Lenny a few minutes before mess, where he sat beside me in the yard, leaning his back against the wall, cigarette tucked between dry lips as he eyed the cameras mounted on the fence. "If you need anything, I'm your guy. I can get you pills, cigarettes, meth, and small shampoo bottles. Just holler at me. I'll be at your service."
"How about books?"
"Whoa, whoa. Easy with that shit, man. Who the fuck do you think I am?”
