Jayne was born in England but grew up in South Africa. After many years in Johannesburg and 17 women's fiction novels published in the UK, a move to White River, Mbombela in Mpumalanga, coincided with an exploration of new writing directions - youth fiction, short stories and poetry. Her YA novel E Eights won the 2009 Macmillan Writer's Prize for Africa, Stepping Solo was awarded the 2011 Maskew Miller Longman literature award for novels in English, and Dreaming of Light won the 2012 Gold Sanlam Prize for Youth Literature and was chosen for the 2014 IBBY Honour List. Her youth short story Dineo 658 MP won the 2009 MML silver medal, while This Ubuntu Thing was shortlisted for the inaugural Golden Baobab award and The Saturday Dress was short ...more

Cebo is an Nguni name, so the "C" is usually sounded as a click consonant, but those who don't speak any Nguni languages struggle with that, so many South Africans simply pronounce the name with the "C" as a "K" sound, as in "king", "E" as in "pen", and the "O" short, as in the English word "corn". Thus - "Kebo". I hope this helps. I see you asked your question seven days ago, although I only received the notification today, so my apologies for the delay.(less)

My publishers Cover2Cover Books have sent Soccer Season #3 to some high school learners to read and comment on during the current school holiday. Once we get their feedback, we're good to go. By the way, the book's title is Game Plan, and I'm really excited about it.(less)

WRITING A NO-ISSUES YA PROTAGONIST

For Game Plan, the third novel in my Soccer Season series for Cover2Cover Books, I set myself the challenge of creating a story around a protagonist with a happy home life and no serious hang-ups or issues.
Ginelle Davids had been an extremely stroppy secondary character in the first two Soccer Season books, Playmaker and Offside, and I always intended her to have a book of her own. I loved her agg Read more of this blog post »

“If she had learnt any lesson today it was that men were stupid, helpless creatures made needlessly cruel by their terror of showing their feelings.”
Jayne Bauling, Thai Triangle

“Oh, this time I was doing the gossiping. You should really dismiss me for disloyalty, not to mention the disrespect I'm showing right now by talking to you like this.”
Jayne Bauling, In Pursuit of Love

“I've been thinking. You'd better be my bridesmaid, since you gave me the idea that led to this whole farce. It's a horrible job, I'm sure, so you deserve it. Plus, you're my friend. Will you do it?”
Jayne Bauling, In Pursuit of Love
