My Holiday Gift Guide

This has been a tremendous year of change and transformation for me. I’m looking forward to continuing our family’s holiday traditions (even though things might look a little different this year) and beginning new ones together. Christmas is a time that I love to reflect and celebrate the ones closest around me with meaningful gifts, whether they be tangible or experiential.

No matter who you’re shopping for this year, remember that the best gift we can give is our gift of time — time spent together with friends, family and loved ones. This is truly the most precious “present.”

I’ve curated some fun gift ideas to help show your loved ones how much you care and will help create special memories together.

    Solvang Bakery

I have worked with the team at the Solvang Bakery for years to deliver smiles to friends near and far! The look on someone’s face when they see these customized, intricate and charming gingerbread houses is truly priceless. Every year, our family would have one of these houses made for Hunter, Jerry and myself and it has become one of my favorite traditions and moments to look forward to before Christmas.

SHOP     PJs

Nothing feels more luxurious than these washable silk PJs by Eberjey. These come in an array of beautiful colors for everyone on your list. I simply love the idea of wearing these to host a fun brunch with your girlfriends — why not feel glamorous and comfy at the same time?

SHOP Hope Candle

Give the gift of Hope this year with my exclusive Hope Candle, created in collaboration with The Family Tree Candle Company. This luxurious fragrance is warm and inviting with layers of delicate blooming lily, cozy warm spice, and a grounding sandalwood base. To capture the essence of "Hope," a sleek white vessel illuminates your home with a perfect glow for the holidays. Each candle includes a personal message from me and every purchase helps support those in need through the St. John’s Foundation, an organization close to my own heart and one that I am honored to work alongside.

SHOP      Carryall Tote Handbag

Who said tote bags are boring? This Sherpa Tote is anything but. With a sturdy fabric exterior and plush look, this tote handbag will be your go-to accessory no matter how long your day might be. With multiple interior and exterior pockets, you’ll always have a place for your phone and other essentials.

SHOP   Spoonful of Comfort

When Jerry passed away last year, I received this amazingly thoughtful curated box of soup and other comfort items from a dear friend. I was so touched by the thought behind this company’s products, I just had to share it with you. Whether you are looking for a seasonal gift with warm soup, holiday cookies and cocoa or really need to send someone some TLC from afar, Spoonful of Comfort has you covered. You can tailor your gifts to your loved ones tastes and needs and they take care of the rest!

shop     Everyday Celebrations From Scratch

My friend Maria Provenzano knows how to bring the family together! Her cook and craft book has so many great ideas to celebrate as a family YEAR ROUND. What I love about this book is that it invites us to celebrate everyday — not just the big holidays and moments. What could be more thoughtful than that?

Shop Womaness Essentials

This special bundle from the team at Womaness will make your holiday beauty and self care regimen so easy to maintain (or start fresh). They've included some of my favorites like The Works and Let’s Neck in this special bundle in perfect sizes for your life on-the-go this holiday season.

SHOP Wireless Charging Crystal Pads

These handy wireless chargers make our tech-filled world just a little more beautiful. Plus, when you aren’t using them as chargers, they make a statement on your vanity, nightstand or coffee table!

shop City Lips By City Beauty

And one final stocking stuffer for yourself….my absolute favorite….City Lips by City Beauty

Whether you are looking for an everyday gloss or something to take your holiday party look up a notch, look no further than City Lips. It helps restore the look of healthy lips by delivering deep hydration for instant plumping and long-lasting comfort while smoothing out the appearance of lip lines & wrinkles. And it's available in a glossy and matte formula, so you can change up your look, while maintaining your perfectly plump pout, regardless of your look.

The new HOPE candle

My story behind the hope candle.

Hope can be one of the hardest things to discover during challenging times, but it is crucial to hold onto when the going gets tough. Hope is about developing a mindset that paves the way for a more promising tomorrow even when things are not looking great today. So many of you have reached out about how I remain hopeful through loss, change and uncertainty. I wanted to share these tips to stay optimistic because no matter what, there is always room for hope! Read on for these tips and an exciting NEW product I helped create to remind myself and YOU to have HOPE every day!

It's easy to lose hope, especially when faced with uncertainty or seemingly tedious waiting seasons. Instead of allowing our hearts to grow weary from disappointment and disillusionment, let's choose to come back to hope again.

Here are some of the ways that I remain hopeful during difficult times:

Get Some Rest: During challenging times, it's important to make sure you are taking care of yourself.

Lean on Your Network: Through my darkest times, my friends, family and colleagues have been a source of inspiration and strength…and when they need me, I’m there for them too!

Laugh It Up: Where there is darkness, try to find the light. Laughter will help you through – we’ve all heard that “laughter is the best medicine” and it really is true!

Move Your Body: Even if it is a simple walk with a friend, movement is a great way for us to release and process emotions.

Gratitude: Focusing on what I do have, even in the darkest times, helps me navigate any situation more purposefully.

Prayer and Meditation: Prayer and meditation help me more than words can say. My new HOPE candle is the perfect addition to my morning prayers and evening self-care rituals.

Do Something for Others: Paying it forward will always make you feel better. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture…the small things count too!

With all of this in mind, I developed the HOPE candle with @familytreecandles. The Hope candle is designed to bring a touch of hope and light into your space. A portion of the proceeds from this candle will go to St.John's Hospital for those in need. My hope is that this candle will light up your life and give you a little spark when you need it.

Life According to Kym

      Life According to Kym

Have you heard of Ask Jeeves? How many of you remember Dear Abby? And we all know Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City... well it's like putting all of those in a blender and pouring out a smoothie called “Life According to Kym”.

I have to admit Life has been a journey for me. I’ve been through years of being in the spotlight on television, a (lasting!) Hollywood marriage, raising a fabulous son, surviving cancer, and loss and so much more. I’ve learned a lot through it all and encouraging others by sharing my loving advice empowers me and hopefully all of you! I’m thrilled to share my first column with you... I want this space to be our monthly catch-up... a time to let our hair down with the friend that knows you best and a place to dish on all things fabulous and flawed. So let’s dive in because life can be choppy but I’m here to help you wade through the emotional waves with a fantastic life jacket on!

Your Friend, Kym

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHO I AM NOW THAT I AM AT THIS STAGE IN LIFE. NOT A WIFE, A DAUGHTER OR A MOTHER ANY- MORE?

Dear "Who Am I," you certainly hit a chord with me. As most of you know I lost my husband of 37 years just 3 months ago. I've been asking myself "Who am I without Jerry?" Jerry was a larger-than-life charismatic actor, and when he walked into a room, he OWNED it. When he passed, I wondered the same “Who am I without Jerry?”. Honestly, I just wanted to stay home. But, here is my advice to you. Don't play it safe. Playing it safe serves no one. We all know the data about the most common regrets of the dying - it's always regretting chances they DIDN'T take, things they wanted to do but didn't. You're 59 years young; you've got decades ahead of you! I just interviewed a 90-year-old woman with her 6th husband writing her 5th play! Life is for the living! Get out there and LIVE IT & you will find out who you really are!

Q & A with Kym Douglas for The Pro-Age Woman Magazine

I am thrilled to be The Cover of this issue of The Pro-Age Woman eMagazine.

I so align with the vision of the pro-age community; seeking and living with positivity. I’m so darn happy that I am the age that I am. I’ve never felt more vibrant thanIdonow. Here’salittlesecret...this is the best age. How wonderful is it to be finished with all the “have to’s” and just get to focus on the “want to’s”. What a gift! I’m so honored to be able to share with you my story and invite you to walk this beautiful path together, skipping all the way.

WHAT DOES PRO-AGING MEAN TO YOU?

I am super grateful to be aging! I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer three years ago, and here is my alternative...NOT BEING HERE! So if you ask me about talking about my age, and what I feel about growing old, I am, in a word...THRILLED. I will never understand how people are ashamed of their age or shy away from it. I want my son and his girlfriend and all their friends that come over to know that turning 50 or 60 or whatever age is great. It's exciting and holds new gifts and opportunities daily. I don't want them to dread aging; that's how we change the narrative... my mission is to help women be loud and proud about their age.

WHAT CONFLICTING THOUGHTS DID YOU BATTLE WHILE APPROACHING 50 OR BEYOND, IF ANY?
I really didn't. I have never been one to worry about a birthday or aging. I looked forward to each stage in my life. I always planned big birthday bashes or a special day walking on the beach with my favorite people celebrating my birthday. I have never, ever been down about it or depressed. I mean, seriously, why? You're not going to change it. I was grateful and took each birthday as a gift from God.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE POSITIVES OF THIS STAGE OF LIFE?

My 20's were fabulous; I'm not going to lie, and so were my 30’s, but with those ages came lots of stressors, pressures and self-doubts.... will I ever get my dream job? Am I going to make it in TV? Will I ever get married? Can I have a child? Will I be a good mom? The list felt never-ending during that time period. When you hit your mid 50's those pressures finally disappear. You are at a stage where you can focus much more on your personal growth, dreams, and goals. It's very freeing. I love it.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?

Oh boy, where to begin! Ha! There are definitely challenges. I do get fearful from time to time of my illness coming back. I am concerned about bone strength, staying fit and agile, and keeping my weight in check. That’s the reason why exercise and keeping active are so important to me. And working in a visual medium the professional challenges are there as well. It's an adjustment to go through life being a person who attracted attention from others and then you hit 50 and to some people you become invisible. The dynamic changes and you have to work a little harder to remind people of your talent. But that’s when your own self-esteem kicks in and you have to grab it. Put on your big girl panties, know your self-worth, and use it. You have experience and wisdom in so many areas, so wield that!

WHAT STRATEGIES DO YOU USE TO OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
Aging to me is all about what energy you give off. I have met 20-somethings who are bored, tired, and lethargic. I run from them, they hate life and work, and everything is a bummer. I have met 80-year-olds full of vitality, energy, and joy and are just so happy to be here. That's who I gravitate to and who others will as well.

I say it's in your mind first. If you think youthfully, you will act and be youthful. I prioritize my healthy eating and movement and make sure to be around people who make me happy and laugh. I say no to things that will cause stress and strife in my life.

I try to keep life interesting daily! For instance - I try out new classes and activities that feel new and exciting. I share them on my Instagram and blog to help inspire other women too!

WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM WOULD YOU HAVE FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS OR YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Get strong roots, my darlings, while you are young. Keep your family close, your traditions strong and your friendship circle very curated. Get friends that will be there for a lifetime not a party time. The people that
I have found to be the most successful in life had strong and deep roots. They knew where they came from. They had a strong sense of faith, a place to turn when the waters get choppy in life and they always will. The happy and most successful people I know had an army, small or big, of trusted and true long-term friends. I was at a gathering at Kris Jenner's home recently and she said something I found so fascinating. She is at the pinnacle of what many term success, in family and career and finances and she said when talking about friendship and her close inner circle...

"History trumps everything." Meaning those friends that were with her at the beginning, before all the fame, money, and trappings, are the ones she still holds the dearest. You can't put a price tag on loyalty and character. Seek that out in your family, friends and loved ones and you will be a rich person.

AT WHAT AGE DID YOU GET INTO THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?
I wanted to be a performer since I was 12 years old. I always knew I wanted to be on TV and in front of the camera. I never wavered and focused on that and only that! By age 21, I was a TV news anchor, reporting the 6:00 am and 11:00 pm nightly evening news in Michigan on camera. I’ve loved it ever since.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN STARTING A BUSINESS AT THIS STAGE OF LIFE?
I would say there had never been a better time than now. You will never be this young again. And look at your advantages...most likely, you have already raised your family and found your strong set of skills. You are in the power position now. You have the time and possibly the resources to pursue your dreams, do it now, or you never will, and you will regret it.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT OUR READERS TO KNOW?

Here is my big "take away”, aging isn't necessarily unicorns and rain- bows every day. It has its struggles and difficulties. In one short year,
I recently lost my husband of 37 years, my job at Hallmark when they canceled the show I was on for ten years called Home and Family, my son moved out (he got a job and graduated), and a long-term commercial contract I had ended as the world shut down due to covid. Wow, talk about dealing with LOSS. Geez, Louise. But that's when my faith kicked in. I trust fully that all things will work in my favor.

My husband lived a fabulous, long, fruitful life. When a career door closes a new opportunity presents itself... and it already has; my son is working, happy and fulfilled and the long-term contract limited a lot of my brand sponsorships so now I am open to many more and they are pouring in. I’m writing a new book about beauty after 50, starting a new podcast and I’m working on launching two new branded products this year aimed at inspiring and celebrating women of all ages -- all new ex- experiences I would never have expected. Yes, doors close but double-wide windows open to us and we have to have faith and belief that it is all in God's hands. He knows that it's all going to turn out in our favor. Trust that and go grab life by the horns and laugh. There's no better time than now.

Summer Getaway Essentials

       My packing list

I’m jetting off to the Hamptons and am so excited to get away to mix a little work with play. From the gorgeous views, stunning shorelines and fabulous nightlife, the Hamptons has it all. What makes this trip all the more special is that it’s my first time visiting this vacation hot spot!

Now….I have to figure out what to pack?!? The old me would be surrounded by every bit of luggage I have in the house and filling them with just about everything I own. Well, no more! I’ve learned to lean into living with intention and that is leading my packing mentality for this trip. With that in mind, I wanted to share with you a list of my favorite items to pack that will make your summer trip a total breeze! I used to overpack and try to prepare for everything but now, I plan thoughtfully around activities for the days and nights really focusing on things I feel my very best in!

Here's what's coming with me on this trip: Versatile Sundress

This is a must for all your summer parties! It looks so chic, the material is gorgeous and you’ll look so fabulous as you watch the sunset with whatever you’re sipping on.

A great sun hat is the best beauty and fashion tip in one! We love the sun but like all good things, use moderation! If you’re meeting friends for some alfresco dining or just pouring over a juicy summer read, a sun hat is a must! This sun hat from J. Crew is the sun hat you’ll be reaching for all summer long!

5. Clean sunscreen

It’s a must whether you’re on vacation or not. Keep it close and use liberally my friends, that sun is not messing around! Your skin will thank you later!

Don’t let wrinkles cramp your summer style! Keep this handy steamer nearby to wand away those creases and wrinkles in your wardrobe in no time!

My Personal Journey with Breast Cancer

You know I typically like to keep things light and fun around here,

but October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time that I want to take to reflect on my personal journey in hopes that I can inspire others who might be on a similar journey. Without a doubt, it has been the greatest challenge I have ever faced in my life. Being a Breast Cancer survivor is something that stays with me everyday, it’s part of who I am now. The silver lining of my experience is that it has shown me the power that resides in me (and all of us!) and the power that faith has in lifting us up even in our darkest hour.

I was diagnosed with stage 1 Breast Cancer in 2018 and after consulting with my doctors we decided the best course of action would be to have a double mastectomy performed. Cancer was found in only one of my breasts but seeing as it was stage 1, I wanted to be thorough in attacking this disease head on. To be safe, I decided a double mastectomy would be the best choice for me. It was during that procedure when the doctors found three 1.5 centimeter stage 3 Breast Cancer tumors. The tumors were hidden in the dense breast tissue in my chest wall right across from my heart. This news was even more devastating than the initial diagnosis. When I heard the words “cancer” be it any kind, it was like bombs going off in my head my first thought was, “I’ve got to live for my son.”

What do you do when you hear this news? You cry, you feel the fear...then you reach for your loved ones. I thank God I had my loving husband Jerry and our wonderful son Hunter there by my side every step of this journey. I know how blessed I am to have such an amazing support system in my family and dear friends and the absolutely incredible medical staff that treated me. Additionally, I know in the fiber of my being that I would not be here were it not for my faith and God’s grace guiding me through this horrible ordeal. Every time I thought I couldn’t go on, I knew I could lean on the Lord and I did. I knew what I couldn’t shoulder I could give to him to carry for me until my strength returned. I know how fortunate I am to have a loving family get me through the most difficult challenge I would ever face.

There were moments when I look back to that time where I can hardly believe I got through it but I did and I discovered a strength from within that I didn’t know I had. That’s the funny thing about events like this -- you don’t know what you can do or handle until after you’ve done it. You can only take a diagnosis like Breast Cancer one step at a time. You keep your family close and hold tight to your faith knowing that God’s love is abundant and there for you and you just move forward one chemo treatment at a time, one radiation treatment at a time. What I find so amazing in this and in talking to other women who have persevered through this horrible disease is that the strength you need is there in you. I know that if, God forbid, you are dealing with this dreadful illness that you have the strength in you and that God’ grace will be there for you as you battle this, or any disease or hardship. What I hope others who may have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer can take from my experience is that you can take this battle on. It will be hard but I know you have the strength within you to get through it and that I’m here to help you through every step of the way. My hope is that you know that being afraid is not a sign of weakness but the first step of finding your strength. You can battle this or anything with God by your side and together we can face whatever comes our way. You are stronger than you know and you just need to trust it and if you ever forget, I’m here to remind you.

Health and happiness,
Kym

How to Stay Accountable (Kym’s Kuest)

It is so important that we keep our bodies moving,

It is so important that we keep our bodies moving,

not only for our physical health but for our mental health as well. Getting your blood flowing and working your muscles is a great way to start your day and can set you on the right foot for whatever you need to accomplish that day. I know I’m not the only one who feels like the hardest thing about exercise is just getting started. I mean just look at all those fitness bloggers on IG and how perfect they look and how effortlessly they move -- it can be intimidating! Seeing those images are meant to inspire but I know they can also serve to intimidate and send you (or me if I’m being honest) to the fridge for another bite of ice cream.

That’s why I’m writing this blog post, so put down that pint of rum raisin and say with me, “I am going to get up and move today!”. Feels good, right? Here’s the thing about exercise -- the hardest part is just starting. Once you put that first foot forward the other will follow and before you know it your heart is pumping, the sweat is flowing and the endorphins are kicking! So lets start! I want this place to be a safe place where we can lift each other up, celebrate our victories and rally around our challenges.

Here on this page we can hold each other accountable without judgement but with grace and acceptance in knowing that when we make strides to better our health with a fitness routine we are not only making ourselves stronger but we are making ourselves stronger for our partners, families and loved ones. So let’s state our intentions, set our goals and break through those plateaus because we have the strength within ourselves to succeed and to lift each other up! Lace up those shoes and get moving! Share with me your goals and routines and we can track our progress together!
