Sarah Wendell's Blog

I have a dashboard!

I have an Author dashboard. I'd love it if it came with an Author truck complete with Author snowplow attachment so I could go tackle the non-authorized snowstorm outside.

Greetings

As a blogger, I feel very odd blogging in other locations. So let me introduce myself. I'm Sarah Wendell, also known as Smart Bitch Sarah from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, a blog devoted to the romance genre. I'm also the co-author of the upcoming book Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels, which is coming out in April 2009 from Touchstone/Fireside.

I'm completely at a loss here as to what to write about, so I've asked my readers from SBTB and from my Twitter feed to assist in topic ideas. Let's start with, "How to answer author questionnaires," courtesy of Acetachtyon.

My advice for author questionnaires: don't take them too seriously. But then, I don't take much of anything seriously, least of all myself. My favorite books? Authors? Songs? All a minefield for me to think of the right names to correctly encapsulate all the variety of books and music and prose I read. Not possible!

I was once going to give a speech for something, and asked if I should thank people extemporaneously at the end. The advice I received has followed me from that moment as an adolescent to the present. That advice: Never name names. Never. You'll forget one. And it'll be the most important one, and you'll kick yourself for eons afterward.

So I'm not going to name my favorite authors, or my favorite music, except to say I love Bach, because I do, and except to say I like both music and reading in most forms. And I'm stunningly proud to be a published author, even though I will always think of myself as a reader. Hence, I don't take them seriously.

I am serious, however, about our book, and I hope you enjoy it.
