If you can't put words down, then it simply means you don't know enough about what you're writing. Do some research or pre-writing which explores character, situation, or plot. I never stare at an empty screen. I always know what I'm going to write before I write it, although I learn through the writing how it is going to turn out. (less)
Janet Nichols Lynch Simply, I can not not write. I have to do it.

John Updike
“Standing amid the tan, excited post-Christmas crowd at the Southwest Florida Regional Airport, Rabbit Angstrom has a funny sudden feeling that what he has come to meet, what's floating in unseen about to land, is not his son Nelson and daughter-in-law Pru and their two children but something more ominous and intimately his: his own death, shaped vaguely like an airplane.”
