First Post
I know how original - first post. Figured, it was a good way to get over the writers block thing. Just got the best news, the paperback version is now on Amazon. It's a 6x9 version for $8.99. If you have Amazon Prime, it's $8.09.
Well I finally got A Backed Up John on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RBB5V82, and Smashwords http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/.... It's available on Createspace https://www.createspace.com/5192285.
The original manuscript of John was stolen many years ago, by one of my ex-friends' daughters. The finished edited and ready for print version loss hit me pretty hard, and I never really wanted to revisit it again. But as events happen, a coworker of mine is a writer too. She started poking at me, and the need to get John back into the computer, and eventually up so anyone could read it was festered.
I worked from a really old copy of the book that my mother actually had in storage. With that copy, I was able to recreate the book. I originally wanted to OCR the thing, but the age of the paper, old style font, and other issues required me to retype it back in page by page. And I hate to say it, this was a good thing.
So if you're looking for a fun read, I hope you laugh at least once in the book. Look into purchasing my little story, it's the price of a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
Teaser - no this is NOT a Spoiler

Hera laughed, and looked at the other gods, and goddesses. “It looks like our little game has come to an end. He has uncovered us.”
A soft moan filled the chamber as the gods, and goddesses showed their displeasure in the development.
“We can’t help keep the information from him any longer. He has to be told.” Hera stood and sat herself next to John.
John looked up at Hera. “What do you mean I have to be told? What do I have to be told?”
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing big. The gods and goddesses of Olympus have been spying on you since the day you were born in Springfield, Illinois. We wanted to know exactly when you developed you amazing talents, and maybe how to reproduce them. Everyone in the Universe wants the secret, but you are the only one who knows how you got the abilities.” Hera extended her hand toward John’s and offered him her throne.
John seated himself. “What secret? I don’t have a secret. I am me.”
“You are wrong on that bit of information.” Athena stood. “I have been watching your education throughout these many years, and I have never seen you exhibit your special talents. You gained them recently, and you are the only one who knows how you got them.” Athena seated herself in a proper style.
Hera took a seat on her crystal steps at the foot of her throne. “John, we know a great deal about you, but we know nothing about how you gained your abilities. We can only assume it happened when you blew up your apartment with that experiment of yours.” Hera saw great displeasure begin to fill John’s face ‘No one was injured in the explosion; we assumed you saved them somehow. You didn’t have the powers when you went to the library. Athena was there and she said you were kind of normal. I know it had to happen between the library, and my house, because that’s where you disappeared.”

A Wonderful Review by PC
PC, a reader from Goodreads, wrote one of the best reviews so far about A Backed Up John.
"I rarely see mention of the book dedication within its review, however I have decided to be just as unusual in my comments as was the story I just read. You see within those heartfelt first pages I enjoyed a small peek into Mr. McAfee's personality that I found actually added to my enjoyment of the fantastic tale that he finally decided to unfold to all of us.
Beginning with a quirky character named John Smythe (Aaaah! Now I understand the title a bit better!) I, for the first few pages, found myself just about as confused as John seemed to be as he proceeded to mix Lemon Jell-O and Sulfuric Acid for tea, while his something-glowing-red cohabitated with a smattering of cream and gave unexpected birth to a bouncing baby blue-hued volatile vapor which kicked his kitchenette right out of existence! I was about to give up the effort and drowse (before my brain hemorrhaged), when I realized Michael had surreptitiously surrounded me with the imagery of the mythological Mount Olympus complete with glittering gods, goddesses, animated animals and more... all gathering in gratitude and a tad of trepidation for our dear John - who remained just as humble, hopeful and confused as I! Well, thank goodness for perseverance because both John and I found this great adventure to be most surprising and worthy of our completion. To attempt an explanation of this story would do it quite an injustice simply because the imagination of McAfee takes the reader a step or two away from what we have been conditioned to imagine Zeus, his half-human son and all those well-known Greek characters of legend to be, and mixes humor, excitement, suspense, a touch of godlike perversions and a time-traveling JOHN into the mythological mixture. Suffice it to say that if you are looking to be entertained there is nothing better than grabbing this book, sitting back and preparing for a cataclysmic break from reality. After all, we get enough reality every single hour of every single day, right? Or... have we just arrived!?
(So glad to have had the chance to read this book from GReads.)"
