The Colour of Dawn
Fourteen years later, the theme is still relevant today. The Colour of Dawn, is a story about suppressed love and fear when world attention was focused on the dawn of two nuclear countries. And it was time to make it into an e-book:The Colour of Dawn[

Author as Entrepreneur- Authorpreneur
Skeptical, unsure of what they were in for, but brimming with ideas and ready to soak in new information! That kind of summed up the 21 journalism students, some with work experience and some fresh out of school, who came for my Authorpreneur workshop on Aug 27, at the American Corner, Bangalore, sponsored by the US Consulate, Chennai. .
Some of them hoped to get tips to be better journalists, while some others hoped to be authors someday, but all of them sat engrossed through the nearly 3 ½ hours workshop, enthusiastically participating in the activities, taking notes and coming up with interesting inputs.
‘I wouldn’t have minded siting back longer, I wanted to know more;’ ‘I did not know what I would get out of this workshop, but now my head is brimming with ideas and stories I can write;’ I know now how to go about writing my book;’ ‘Can I send you my work to look at?’ were some of the post workshop conversation.
So what does being an Authorpreneur mean?
It means to be aware of the sweeping changes in the publishing industry - the positives and pitfalls; how indie authors have come into their own; and how they have become thoroughly professional by going in for professional editing, design, book making and book marketing. The workshop also included a hands on activity on taking the book in you to the next level and looking at how to market it.
I loved the enriching experience of interacting with the young minds and answering their innumerable queries!

Shadows
Shadows was published in Eve’s Weekly in its December 1978 issue, under my maiden name- Janaki Viswanath. Eve’s Weekly has become defunct now. I wrote the story when I was 23 years old. I didn’t want to change the story much. I have retained its flawed ending, to keep the flavour of the age and the times. It was the seventies - middle class Indian women didn’t divorce so easily. They stayed on in loveless marriages. If they did digress, it was only to a safe relationship. They didn’t go all the way. I would have ended it differently if I were to write the story now. Read Shadows on my website and post your comments:

Following the Light Home, Lakshmi's Story
In her deep, dark despair, Lakshmi, a 15 year old widow, has two choices. She could either sink into its soothing depths or climb out fingernail by torn fingernail. Lakshmi chooses the latter.Watch Lakshmi’s Story unfold in lazy, languid Nilambur, a village tucked away in the hilly Wayanad regions of Kerala and see how she adapts to the old world charm of Basavanagudi, a suburb in Bangalore.
Lakshmi's Story is the prequel to a multi-generational saga, set against the background of an India coming of age. You can pre-order the novella here, for just $2.99 (Rs 180)
