“Chocolate and wine: there seems to be an ongoing competition to find out which wines will stand up to the generously mouthcoating sweetness of many chocolate desserts. I love chocolate, and I love intensely sweet wines, but I mostly find the prospective surfeit of the two combined a positive turn-off. If we are talking surfeits, I prefer fresh cream with my chocolate, and good coffee to follow, please. There are better things that combine with sweet wines.”
