I'm going at ask and answer a question myself - which is not lost on me as being weird- but I did want to provide some context. What's with all of the 5 star ratings I'm giving to books I'm reviewing? Is every book I read a 5 star book? That seems impossible!

Here's some context as to why you can expect to see mostly 5 star ratings & reviews FROM me.
(1) Author etiquette - there is an unwritten rule that when authors review each other, we don't go under 5 stars. Now this rule can get broken if we're talking about the titans like Stephen King who will be unhurt if we give a 4 or 3 or even 2 star review. But for the rest of us, negative reviews can hurt momentum, so we just don't do that to each other. Readers, of course, can and should rate whatever they think is correct - this is your space! For my reviews and ratings you're only seeing the books I like - when it comes to books I DNF or felt "meh" about I'm taking the high road and keeping mum.
(2) Expectations Vary - I don't have the same level of expectation when I'm grabbing a meal at McDonalds that I do when I'm at a fine restaurant that charges $100 a plate. (Okay the second scenario is waaaayy less frequent than the first but you get my point.) If I'm reading Frieda McFadden I expect a snappy little thriller that's not too deep but is a fun read and delivers a significant twist I did not see coming. If I'm opening one of Stephen King's 1000+ page epics (like the ever popular 11/22/63) I'm expecting a expertly crafted story that despite it's length, makes me sad rather than relieved that it's over. When I start a book by Joe Hill, I expect an addictive horror novel that delivers high levels of creepiness with a depth of story that goes way beyond any slasher movie. I'm not looking for every book I read to change my life- but if I really enjoyed it, it met my expectations for what it promised, and I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys that genre without hesitation, it's 5 stars.
(3) I'm here for positivity! You might be surprised to hear there's a significant contingent of authors that avoid goodreads because they feel it's a negative space for us. I didn't join with some expectation that every reader will love my book (the book that all people love doesn't exist and never should!). I'm here to thank people that have been supportive. I'm here to interact with readers. Some negativity is going to happen. Again, if I don't like something, whether that be a book I read or a reader review of my own book, I have to remember my role here is primarily as an author in a space meant for readers. I'm not here to bash other authors or readers. If I don't have something nice to say, I'll say nothing.
(4) If you want to know if I have read a particular book, or more about what I thought of a particular book- you're always free to ask! If it was awhile ago my memory tends to get hazy, but I almost always remember if I loved it! (Even when I can't remember exactly what it's about...)(less)

Well over 6000 entries as a debut author and I am blown away- thank you to all who entered!

That being said, the vast majority didn't win. Anyone else feel like they never win stuff? I NEVER win these kinds of things either, but the good news is there are still inexpensive (and even FREE!) ways to read GHOSTS OF THE UNFOUND. All of these options are available on Amazon.
