Listen to WHEN THEY CAME on YouTube!

Hello everyone!

As I’ve hinted to in the past: I have been working behind the scenes to bring my audiobooks to YouTube. I am pleased to announce that When They Came has made its debut on the video-streaming platform!

When They Came and its sequels tell the story of Ana Mia, and her quest to make a difference in the world six years after alien beings have invaded the planet Earth. As the sister of a Midnight Guardsman, Ana longs to protect her community from the threats outside her walls, and aspires to join the Guard to defend her friends and family. But when an accident occurs, she will soon find herself in an interplanetary conflict she could have never anticipated.

As you might expect: When They Came is a science-fiction horror novel that delves into the cruel realities of a world post-alien invasion. I have made it free to listen to on YouTube in the hopes of drawing new fans to my work—and also in the hopes of eventually monetizing my channel to bring in additional revenue. If you want to lend your support to this endeavor, consider subscribing to the channel. I have to reach 1000 subscribers in order to monetize the channel, and your support can help me reach that goal!

The YouTube video features the complete narration by my friend and narrator Krys Janae, as well as subtitles that were uploaded directly to YouTube from the ebook itself. This means you can follow along while you listen.

If you decide to listen on YouTube and need to stop to take a break (but want to remember your place in the process), leave a comment with the timestamp of the place you are in the video. For example, to pick back up at the 20-minute mark, you would type 20:00 in the comment section. Do this for any part of the video you are at and you will be able to pick back up at the same spot you left at even if you close your browser window.

With all that said: you can start listening to When They Came by clicking or tapping on the video below.

The second novel, When They Saw, will debut on the platform in exactly two weeks, and the final novel in the trilogy, When They Fell, two weeks after that.

Feel free to share the video far and wide with friends, family, and colleagues who enjoy young adult science fiction novels!

If you want to show your support, consider purchasing the audiobook on your favorite audiobook retailer, or by streaming it on Spotify. You can also download the eBook version of When They Came for free on your favorite eBook retailer by clicking or tapping here.

I have (technically) finished my undergraduate degree in college

To say that I am a bit overwhelmed is an understatement.

But, that wouldn't be much of a blog, now would it?

For the past five years, I have been working toward finishing my online undergraduate (bachelor's) degree in Creative Writing and English. Though I originally started school in Austin, Texas in 2011, I dropped out after finishing my only semester there due to my mental health. I started back up again in 2019 after my roommates and I moved to Edinburg, Texas, after living in Fort Worth from 2015 to 2019.

Five years later, at 2:00 AM on December 21, 2024, I have finished.

Of course, I have to wait for my final discussion post, plus my replies to my peers, to be graded, but the legwork is done. I have, effectively, completed my undergrad degree.

The feeling I'm experiencing is odd to describe. A part of me is overwhelmed. Another is overjoyed. A third feels a bit of fear over what my future holds.

This has been such a huge part of my life for the past five years, and now it's just... over.

The last things that need to be done is the audit of my degree program, which has already begun. Once I officially "graduate," I will receive my diploma -- and it will be on to whatever comes next.

I still want to teach at some point (at the college level,) but that's a whole separate endeavor in itself, one I still have to research fully.

Anyhow, I just wanted to drop in here and share that piece of information, and to document it for my future self.
