EFT for disease and illness

Research studies have validated the mind-body connection and an article recently appeared in the European Journal of Cancer linking emotional stress with the 'down regulation' (susceptibility) of the immune system.....

The report concluded that 'psychological or behavioural factors may influence the incidence or progression of cancer through psychosocial influences on immune function and other physiological pathways." In other words, certain experiences/events can compromise our immune system and ability to heal.

Psychoneurimmunology (PNI) studies the interaction between psychological factors, the central nervous system (CNS) and immune function. Quite a number of studies validated how emotional imbalances lead to the formation of tumours.

In 1985, research by neuro-pharmacologist and pioneer of mind-body medicine, Candace Pert, revealed that neuroptide-specific receptors are present on the cell walls of both the brain and the immune system. The discovery by Pert et al that neuropeptides and neurotransmitters act directly upon the immune system shows their close association with emotions and suggests mechanisms through which emotions and immunology are deeply interdependent. Showing that the immune and endocrine systems are modulated not only by the brain but also by the central nervous system itself has had an enormous impact on how we understand emotions, as well as disease.

We now know that clearing of negative emotions are vital to our health. Whilst tapping on specific points on the body, disruptions or blockages in the energy meridian system are removed allowing for a free flow of energy to the body’s cells. This permits healing because cells communicate with each other through a network of chemical interactions. They also communicate at a vibrational level via tiny receptors.

There are over 100 auto-immune diseases, common examples are Fibromyalgia, Crohns disease, Lupus, MS, Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Graves Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Psoriasis.

Auto-immune diseases are common forms of immune dysfunction, during which the immune system, which normally defends only against invaders, can become confused and attack itself, targeting the cells, tissues, or organs of our own bodies.

Dr. Hans Selye, “the father of stress” was an endocrinologist in 1950’s who did research on the response of organisms to stress. He determined that stress is the underlying cause of all illness and dis-ease. His research was taken a step further by Dr. Herbert Benson.

Dr. Herbert Benson of Harvard’s Mind Body Institute , has studied stress reduction for 35 years. Dr. Benson found that stress causes physical or emotional blockages. Dr. Benson found that stress reduction was essential to creation of health. He coined the phrase “relaxation response”. He defines this as “a physical state of deep rest that changes the physical and emotional responses to stress – for example: decrease in heart rate, blood pressure and muscle tension.” He also found that regular elicitation of the relaxation response has been scientifically proven to be an effective treatment for a wide range of stress-related disorders. In fact, to the extent that any disease is caused or made worse by stress, the relaxation response is essential to healing it.

It is widely accepted that stress overload is one of the major contributors towards a deficient immune system which is why when working with clients suffering from an auto-immune disease, it is important to first establish what traumas have entered their lives and if it correlates around the time of the onset of their symptoms.
