Audiobook of "A Bull for Pluto" Coming Out Soon!

I'm excited to announce that the Audible version of the second book in my "A Slave's Story" fiction trilogy, "A Bull for Pluto" will be available in the next few weeks. My reader has finished recording it, but there are a few minor points to be fixed before the book is uploaded to Audible. I've listened to the whole thing, and it's wonderful! Keith Gerhard, my narrator, does an excellent job of creating memorable voices for each of my characters. I think the book is better in audio form than on the printed page!

For those who are unfamiliar with my "A Slave's Story" series, the first book follows the journey of a Roman slave and his master across western Asia Minor in search of healing at the sanctuary of the god Asklepios at Pergamon, while the second book covers what happens when that quest ends in failure. Both books offer a wealth of information about the social and religious lives of oridinary people in the Roman provinces. Both are receiving excellent reviews on Amazon and Goodreads.

To learn more, see my Website, https://www.aslavesstory.com/. Get ready for the audio version of "A Bull for Pluto" by listening to the first book in the series, "A Rooster for Asklepios," posted at https://adbl.co/3IoHiLx. Both books are well worth your time!

In case it matters, I'm a social and religious historian of the Roman world with over 30 years of research and writing experience in the academic world. These books draw heavily on that background--if it's in the book, you can assume that it's historically accurate, or as much as we can know.

Who Wants to Be a Doctor?

Why didn’t upper-class Romans want their children to become doctors?

How to Run an Empire

How did the Romans control their empire?

A strong central bureaucracy? Far from it.

A dominant military presence? Not outside of “barbarian” Europe.

Vulcan mind control? Wrong again.

So how did they do it?

Shopping with Greeks and Romans

Here's another blog post from my Website for the "A Slave's Story" trilogy.

Where did ancient Greeks and Romans do their shopping? Could they do it any time, or only on certain occasions?

Blog Posts on Roman Life

I've been posting notices on other sites about new blog entries on the Website for my "A Slave's Story" trilogy, but I keep forgetting to post them here on Goodreads. Rather than dumping a bunch of them in at once, I'll post links to two or three of them each day, along with a question to pique your interest.

Here's the first one to get you started: Why didn’t upper-class Romans want their children to become doctors?
