3.5 stars. So many people recommended this to me. I’ll admit - It is a very clever and creative book. And I love the cover. And one of the authors is Lebanese. Which is all 4 star material.

I suppose all I can say is that a) I found the relationship

4.5 stars. This is how you honor a fairy tale. Wow. I hate so many modern retellings because they don’t seem to understand the genre. This beautifully weaves it into a wider story. Heartwarming.

The premise of this book is so unique and the world building is really quite something. But the plot itself is anchored down by a flat and pretty unbelievable romance which unfortunately unravels most of its charms.

This was a lovely exposition on the LP and early church writings. I will say as a caveat that the author is more Reformed leaning than I am so some of the sections are certainly written from an original sin viewpoint. But he often takes time to point ...more

“But we remember that God creates all the world good, which includes both the safe protection of the garden and the expansive complexity of the fertile land. Indeed, God fashions the man from the fertile land itself, and only afterward places him in the safe confines of the garden. After they eat the fruit, God sends the man and the woman back into the fertile land, to find their way and farm the soil, and, eventually, to discover God’s goodness even among the thistles and thorns.”
Danielle Shroyer, Original Blessing: Putting Sin in Its Rightful Place

“If we are looking for a biblical view of sin, the best place to start is in Genesis 4, not Genesis 3. Genesis 4:7 marks the first time the word “sin” is used in scripture.”
Danielle Shroyer, Original Blessing: Putting Sin in Its Rightful Place

“you may be surprised to learn the church flourished for four centuries without any concept of original sin at all.”
