The Top Ten Halloween Movies of all Time
It's my favorite time of the year! I've pulled out all of my comfy sweaters, stocked wood for my fireplace, bought a basket of Honey Crisp Apples and lit a pumpkin pie scented candle! And I'm never short on creepy Halloween Movies. I'm a softie for good old fashioned horror movies all kinds but at this time of the year, I'm particular about what I'll watch in this genre. I've compiled a list of must see movies for this special time of the year. I hope you enjoy!
10. Halloween 1978
This story about a psychotic murderer on the loose isn't so much creepy as it is suspenseful. One of the first of its kind, Halloween fits right into the season!
9. The Evil Dead 1981
This movie scared the pants off me when I was a little kid and I've never been able to shake my eebie jeebies when I watch it. It's a low budget film about a group of young people who stay in a cabin in the woods and awaken a dormant demonic spirit that hunts them down, one by one.
8. Fright Night 1985
Fright Night, one of my absolute all time favorites! It's a story about a young man named Charlie who discovers that his neighbor is a vampire who's been sucking the life out of local prostitutes. The story takes a classic vampire romance turn and Charlie finds himself fighting for his life while trying to rescue his girlfriend from the vampire's claws!
7. Sleepy Hollow 1999
Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of 3 people with the culprit being the legendary Headless Horseman. Tons of creep factor in this movie with an abundance of gore. While I usually don't care for gore, in this movie it's almost darkly humorous.
The Wolf Man 1941
Larry Talbott returns to his homeland and is attacked by a werewolf. This classic is filled with creepy fog and forest scenes.
5. Poltergeist 1982
A great movie reminiscent of childhood wonderment and the deeply rooted fears that drive both young and old.
4. The Exorcist 1973
The Exorcist is a truly terrifying movie that dares to delve into deep into the horrific notion that demonic spirits can stake a claim wherever they'd like!
3. The Lost Boys 1987
After moving to a new town, two brothers are confronted with the reality that vampires are real!
2. The Wolfman 2010
A new spin on a classic. I don't feel like The Wolfman 2010 got its just dues. This classic story was revamped for 2010 with a much higher creep factor, deeper romance and a pinch of psychotic undertones for good measure! An excellent film!
1. The Conjuring 2013
One of the scariest movies that I've seen in a long time. Why? Mostly because I have followed the work of Ed and Lorraine Warren for years and I know that this movie was based on their actual accounts. Decent acting, could have done without the witch bit, but still a great story!
Happy Halloween!

New werewolf / vampire romance book giveaway on goodreads.
I wrote Rebecca Powder and the Werewolves of Stone County with the intention of creating a new series. The series is off to a great start and I'm so excited to think about where it's headed! This story strays from the popular "club scene" vampire stories and rolls back in time to an era when ladies wore corsets and drove men wild with imagination! The story is set in the Victorian era south sometime near the American Civil War and follows my book: Born To Be Mine; A Vampire Romance. So I thought it was fitting to call the series Born To Be Mine, as all of my ladies do eventually belong to their sexy vampire lovers!
For fans of Victorian, historical, paranormal and erotica romance this book holds a combination of those flavors in this darkly romantic story with a quirky protagonist and some truly scary scenes! I hope you enjoy it!
My Goodreads giveaway link is not ready yet. I'll have that posted as soon as the giveaway is approved!

I See Werewolves!
It's been a while since I posted. I've been directing all of my writing to Wide Awake; A Vampire Romance II.
Now that it's finished, I had to blog to share this! I know I mentioned part of this before but I was watching Paranormal Witness (Syfy channel) and caught two episodes on werewolves that gave me a new appreciation for the folklore surrounding werewolves and vampires. One episode was called "The Cabin". Freaked me out!! This had to be, hands down, the best werewolf story that I've ever heard. Perhaps it struck a cord with me because it just seems so darn real.[image error]
It is a fantastic story told by couple Keith and Diane Williams. Diane found a perfect little home for them in a wooded area out in the country. She began to see eyes looking in through the window at her while Keith was away at work. She told him and of course, he had a hard time believing that it was anything unusual.
The situation went on until finally Keith was confronted with the reality of it. I'll stop there, because I don't want to spoil the story for you. If you get a chance, you should really check out this episode! I loved it.

More recently, the TV series featured another story about werewolves, this on is titled "The Wolf Pack". Again, another story of a possible werewolf sighting, this time a whole pack of them.[image error]
It's obvious that these people are seeing something. Could these sightings be the actual creatures that the werewolf legends evolved from?

I couldn't tell you. What I can tell you is that I had a personal experience that cracked opened the door of possibility in my mind.I was leaving the house one night, running out to the 24hr drugstore in town for drinking water that I forgot to get earlier (I have a well). It was late, maybe 11:30pm. I live in a small town. This particular area of our village is a little more rustic than the rest of it. I was walking to my car that I keep out in my driveway when I stopped dead in my tracks. I looked into my neighbor's open, dark and slightly wooded back yard and I just knew that something was watching me.
It was like some primitive switch was flipped in my head and I sensed the danger. I smelled this horrible smell. It smelled like animal but not like a dog or a skunk. It wasn't familiar to me, I'd never smelled it before. I just stood there for a moment, felling like... prey. Within seconds, my wits came back. I clicked the button on my key-less car remote and the headlights flashed on bright. I ran around to the drivers side and got in. I backed the car up a little and angled the lights into the place where I thought something was watching me. There was noting to be seen, but I knew that something HAD been there. I've been a little freaked out ever since to leave or to get home that late.

I supposed if we ever did find out that werewolves really do exist, then we would have to wonder just how far off we would be to assume that vampires may exist as well. There's always that story about the Maybe there is a real Julian and Seth out there.

Until I have proof, I'll have to keep writing my stories about them.
Make sure to check out the new installment of the Kindred Souls Series: Wide Awake II.

Vampire movies
Be sure to check out the video I posted last night for my new book, "Wide Awake, A Vampire Romance".
So aside from being an avid vampire romance writer and reader, I am also a fan of vampire movies... and werewolf movies for that matter. My favorite vampire movies have to be Fright Night (1985)

and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Maybe not in that order?
I liked the Howling and Ginger Snaps and Ginger Snaps Back.

I don't think that I've ever seen a really well made werewolf movie. I wish someone would do up one of those. Now there's something that could be the next big thing! Everyone underestimates the werewolf. - Except the lycans in Underworld, of course.

I did see something once that left me in a little bit of awe. I watched an episode of Paranormal Witness. The episode was called "The Cabin".
If you like a well spun tale that makes you second guess your concept of what lingers in reality then I suggest watching that!
- Happy :)

Vampires vs. Zombies
As anyone can guess, I love love love all things vampire. I supposed that's why I've written so many books about them. But I've always had a little dark corner in my mind reserved for those lackadaisical living dead characters... zombies.
I think that the movie "I Am Legend" came closer to my vision of zombies than any other interpretation yet. The zombies really seemed "infected". They were burning up with fevers, they had inhuman strength and they were light on their toes! I mean, those things could really move.
Although Shaun of the Dead had the best molasses zombies ever; and I still freaked out watching them getting so close to Shaun and Ed, I think zombies deserve more speed.
Is there a world where vampires and zombies co-exist? I'll have to think about that....

Julian, The Warrior and Nicolae, The Shadow
Now that my Christmas story ("Make My Wish Come True") has been published,

I'm ready to get back to my vampires.
My vampire in Wide Awake A Vampire Romance. :) I think that Julian deserves a shot at love. He's been such a support to Symon and a loyal subject. But do not be mistaken, Julian's one bad motha.

The things that he lets Symon get away with are only because Julian is from a romantic era; when pledging yourself to your leader meant literally offering your own flesh and blood if need be. Julian is Symon's most fearless and valuable subject but he has a dark side as well. Nothing that I would call sinister but... I have plans for Julian.

And then there is Nicolae; a character that wasn't mentioned until the very end of Wide Awake. He may have not been mentioned but he was alive. He existed in my mind before Symon and Julian were ever "born". At the time of his conception, Nicolae's character was so dark that I just couldn't move him from the darkness into the light of a love story. So I stopped writing him after an hint of introduction to his character and left the story of Nicolae untouched... until now. He will be back, peering at us from under his shroud of shadow. ;)

I'm ready to get back to my vampires.
