95,000 Words and Counting: Inside the Next Paul Robertson Novel

It’s been over a month since my last post, and for a good reason. I’ve been focusing all my spare energy on the fifth Paul Robertson novel—tentatively titled A Loving Light—and have made some significant progress. This title ties in with the ending of “A Healing Love,” directly referencing the song that is at the heart of the book’s climax.

My manuscript is currently over 95,000 words long. It picks up...

More Than a Mentor: The Enduring Bond of Paul Robertson and Will Brown

From a Sombre Prologue to a Lasting Legacy

The very first time we meet Paul Robertson in “A Good Man,” it’s at the funeral of Will Brown. It’s a poignant framing device that immediately tells us how pivotal this man will be in Paul’s life.

“He loved you,” Will’s wife Amy tells Paul. “You were the son he never had.”

And Paul’s own thoughts confirm the depth of their connection: “Amy knew that Will had been like a father to me since I lost my real fat...

An Honest Ramble: A Year of Starmer, A World of Worry

The past year has brought about considerable change for me. I’ve been reflecting on it at length in recent weeks, especially as September approaches, which marks the beginning of the new academic year and signifies a full twelve months since my son moved out of the family home into his university term-time residence.

His empty room at home still leaves a big gap in my life, even though I stay i...

The Man in the Mirror: Charting Paul Robertson’s Transformation

If you are among those who have followed Paul Robertson’s story from the very start, you’ll already know that the young man we revisit at the beginning of “A Healing Love” is a world away from the boy who first captured our hearts in “A Good Man.”

His journey has been one of profound change, shaped by love, loss, and the personal growth that only comes from facing life’s harshest storms. In thi...

From the Writing Desk: An Update on My Current Projects

With “A Healing Love” out in the wild and being well received, and a fully revised and updated version of “A Good Man” also available, I thought it was time to update you on the projects I’m currently working on.

Project Updates

Ongoing & New Works in Progress

Like any writer, I have several projects on the go, some of which sit on the back burner while other projects take precedence. That is the case wi...

When a Reader Sees the Heart of Your Story

It’s a peaceful Tuesday morning here in sunny Northamptonshire. The usual routine begins—a strong cup of tea, a quick glance at my inbox to check for anything urgent, and then a discreet look at my author notifications and stats. Most days, it’s all quite routine, a swift check before settling at my desk to focus on my daily tasks.

But today, I saw something that made me stop dead in my tracks.

I found a review for A Healing Lo...

A Labor of Love: Revisiting and Revising ‘A Good Man’

It might seem like I’ve been ‘Missing in Action’ recently, but I’ve actually been a busy little beaver honing a comprehensive revision and update of the text of ‘A Good Man,’ the first book in the Paul Robertson Saga.

One thing I noticed while working on the first draft of ‘A Healing Love’ is how much my writing has evolved since 2011, when ‘A Good Man’ was completed. Fourteen years is a long time, so ...

Creative Experiments: Announcing My ‘Author Commentary’ Series

I posed a question in the SOL Forums the other day – “How would you feel about an 'Author Commentary' in the story comments?”

The essence of my questions was to see if readers would be interested in my posting my thoughts in the reader comments section of “A Healing Love,” chapter by chapter, as it is posted.

The general feeling was that, while it is a nice idea that could give readers insight into what the author was thinking as they w...
