Utah Authors Day 2022
I participated in the first official Utah Authors Day today, 3 December 2022, as established by the Governor of the the great state of Utah. It was okay, more an exercise in getting over anxiety, depression, and the long-hauler effects of Covid-19, but I made it out.

No One Here Gets Out Alive
I was just reflecting on Jim Morrison today, or more specifically the quote I’m using as a title. It might be some kind of inner-reflection or demon reminding of 9/11 – it has been over 20 years, yet it seems like yesterday to me. Like many, I remember exactly where I was, what I was …

Happy New Year!
To start the new year, I really need to get back to writing on a regular basis, to get my work out there, and to find a larger audience. I thought a great way to do that might be to publish an interview I did in April of 2019. I don’t remember who interviewed me, …

Witches in Horror Fiction
A few weeks ago, I took the plunge and started a limited liability corporation (LLC) – in other words, I got serious about my press. This was kind of brought on by something that happened several months ago. I was asked to be the publisher for this year’s Utah Horror Writers’ anthology. Yes, I technically …

My Corona, a Matter of Time, What a World
I keep having this recurring dream about Elizabeth Montgomery, Samantha from the old television program Bewitched. She does that thing with her mouth when she’s casting a spell, I can hear the sound, and then magically the old punk group The Knack go into their overplayed song… but it’s different… something like… Ooh, my little …

The Snow
The snow is falling outside my window. The shopping is almost done for Thanksgiving, just need a few things for the aromatics that will make the turkey gravy perfect. I look at the pumpkins outside my front door. They have all turned orange. A little late for Halloween, right on time for Thanksgiving. The flag …

Journaling
I mean Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, and Mark Twain did it.

The Writer’s Life
Oh, if only I had the the Writer’s Life… Most of us imagine it quite differently than it really is… Several weeks ago, I hit a wall. Not a block, a wall: I don’t believe writer’s block really exists. All the same, it’s been a painful doldrums, a kind of feeling where everything I write, …

Exit Scott: Aliens Among Us
My friend, eEllisAllen, writes about interesting things she observes on her walks around her community. I have a walking path near my home, but the leavings on my path are not quite as friendly. My trail is made up mainly of weeds, broken sprinkler systems, and a few trees, of which 66.6 percent are in …

Writer’s Block: the Demon, Acedia
I hate to admit it, but I’ve been coming up empty lately. I’m having a hard time writing. I’ve considered anxiety and depression, but then I stumbled onto a new word – Acedia – and a new book. I was trying to write the closing section of my newsletter, Exit Scott, and stumbled on the …
