IBBY Outstanding Books For Young People With Disabilities!
Every two years the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), creates a list of “Outstanding Books for Young People will Disabilities” from around the world, to be featured in a catalogue and travelling exhibition.
Three titles from Canada were chosen for the 2019 list…including Caterpillars Can’t Swim! So incredibly proud to find my work on this important listing created “to give young people with disabilities, like other children, the opportunity to enjoy books and also open the way for their inclusion in society.” Here’s what they had to say…”This novel, written by a former special education teacher, offers a positive portrayal of male friendship. Both characters behave in ways that are realistic: they say the wrong things, they hurt each other, but they also learn and try to do better the next time. Ryan’s disability is a well integrated part of his fully-realized character.”

Coming this September!
A book about coming out, falling in love, and self-acceptance
Seventeen-year-old Jack Pedersen is finding life complicated ever since he came out to his mom. Even though she’s been doing her best to be understanding, it’s obvious to Jack that his mom still wants to cry every time she says the word gay.
Complications go into hyperdrive when a new student arrives at school, and Jack starts experiencing feelings he’s never allowed himself to feel before. When a near tragedy turns life upside down, Jack realizes that it’s time to stop hiding from himself and everyone around him.
Rainbow List!
So pleased and proud to find Caterpillars Can’t Swim on @ALA_Booklist’s RAINBOW LIST for 2019! It’s an honour to be in the company of so many wonderful books! https://glbtrt.ala.org/rainbowbooks/archives/1324
