Ron Turker started in the ’80s as a standup comic and medical student. Through a series of nonlinear events, he became a pediatric surgeon by day and an unrelenting writer by night.

Thirty years of caring for kids at home and worldwide (from the Navajo Nation to Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, to Syrian refugees in Jordan, and most recently, kids in Ukraine) has shaped, sharpened, and ground his sensibilities into a relentless yet witty voice for healthcare change and equity here in the U.S.

You can find his writings in a wide range of journals, textbooks, and periodicals, from the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics to Open Spaces, and the New York Times.

Medical training in the '80s was a different beast. At times, a brutal beast!

So, I set aside the story of a young medical student, about to be kicked out of school for his addiction to...standup comedy, and began work on the origins of Marty and Ralph's unlikely friendship. Working title: "31st and Ellis."(less)

The Medical Spotlight on Guns

Signs in public spaces advise us:
“If you see something, say something.”

U.S. doctors, as a whole, have been too quiet for too long about the epidemic of gun violence.
Time to shine our collective light on the issue.

“If you see something….”

Just loved this book. The rhythm, the flow, and all the intricate details. Like poetry for the non-poet and natural philosophy for science geeks like me. Thanks, Robin Wall Kimmerer
