Vincent Quealy, Jr. was born in Boston, MA in 1953, one of six children of Vincent and Anne Quealy. Grandparents John Quealy and Bridget (Meade) Quealy were both born in Ireland and lived there into early adulthood, eventually emigrating to the United States in the early 1900’s and settling, for a time, in Lowell, MA.

“I remember my grandmother’s Irish accent and Irish expressions and stories of Ireland and I came to learn later about the difficulties and hardships confronting my grandmother and her Meade family in Ireland at a time when Britain still ruled that country very harshly. I wanted, for many years, to discover all that I could about why she left a beloved homeland, along with so many others, and about the struggles of the family

I wanted, for a very long time, to understand all that I could about why she left a beloved homeland and to learn about the hardships which confronted the family she left behind. The story is one of suffering, of sacrifice, of courage and of endurance. I found it to be a remarkable story and I hope that you find it so. Thank you for asking!(less)

A United Ireland

I’m actually fascinated to think that the struggle for a united Irish Republic remains, still today, unrealized. It’s fascinating to me because my own Irish family ancestors were deeply and courageously engaged in that struggle some 125 years ago. Think of it—125 years ago. And it is yet unfulfilled.

My paternal grandmother, Bridget (Meade) Quealy, was one of fourteen children born to a poor tenant Read more of this blog post »

I found the story and the life of James Garfield to be fascinating. I knew very little about Garfield before reading the book and was both surprised and interested to learn of his remarkable life, of his keen intellect, of his warm humanity.

Vincent Jr. It's always gratifying to read a review from a reader who so obviously enjoyed your book: "It is a remarkable story coming from a family which had suffered it all. It should attract a wide readership hence, for its authenticity and being documented so well."

Vincent Jr. Reflections of an Irish Grandson: A story of Grandmother Bridget (Meade) Quealy and the Meade family of Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland

Hello....I recently completed much research on my Irish family history, including time spent in Ireland on the project. I'd wanted, for many years, to learn more than the bits and pieces I'd often heard over the years and to uncover all that I could about the story. It is now written in my new book "Reflections of an Irish Grandson: a story of Grandmother Bridget (Meade) Quealy and the Meade family of Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland."
It is a story of sorrow and of sacrifice, of courage and of resistance. The Irish War of Independence would come harshly to Miltown Malbay and three Meade brothers would serve valiantly in the Mid Clare Brigade, often engaging British troops in the struggle to finally throw off the rule of a foreign government. The Meade family would soon come to know particular hardship and sorrow.
