Write a list of things you'd like to listen to while you work, write things about the world in which your story/novel/series takes place. Write a poem. Just keep the mind engaged with words, and that should help.(less)

The mind is fertile and new ideas pop up all the time, but I've only got so much time and/or energy. Working on a bunch of things at once has left me diffused and tired, so the thing right this second is to prioritize something and hammer on that until it's ready for the editing stage, then on to the next thing.(less)

I don't do a lot of non-fiction reading, and I'm always a little skeptical about diving into another one of these. Especially one like this, pretty hefty. But I was wrong to be skeptical about Bryan Burrough. This is engaging and the writing is smoot ...more

Once again, Parker ends up facing down organized crime and it's awesome. I was so happy when I found out Mel Gibson's Payback came from a book series, and this is exactly what I'd hoped it would be.

My favorite part of this one, however, is the step

I'm making my way through the Parker books again, and I'm struck again by the unchanging nature of Parker, and also the structure of these books, with the overlapping sections of narrative from different POVs. It's a neat trick, and Donald Westlake k ...more

In very stark contrast to the book I read before this one, an indie book for which I left my first-in-a-long-time negative review, this took me one quarter of the time to read. Quality will out.

What I really like about this is Parker is complete. He

I don't know what re-read this is of THIS book, but goddamn, it's still in my Top Ten books of all time. Crazy to me that John Steakley only ever wrote two books, and they're both this good.
