In this vivid narrative about men battling against a raging force of nature during the bygone age of wooden ships and harpoons, Dan reconstructs the events of that hurricane and the "Dorcas", the impact to the rest of the fleet out at Georges Bank, and their loved ones back in Gloucester. Throngs Packed New Parkway During Exercises

99 years ago on this day, the Gloucester Daily Times and Cape Ann Advertiser ran a story about the unveiling of the Gloucester Fishermen’s Memorial which had happened the day prior on Sunday August 23, 1925. All twelve victims from the August Gale of 1924 were memorialized during the ceremony. This blog post contains my personal transcription of the microfilm article from August 24, 1925. I format
