Released February 2022 by the University of Oklahoma Press: A BIRD WITH TEETH AND A DINOSAUR IN THE FAMILY by Jill Hunting

In 1872, a young graduate of Yale University named Thomas Russell unearthed the bones of an 83,000,000-year-old dinosaur in western Kansas. A former food and wine editor, Jill is the editor of the STONE EDGE FARM COOKBOOK, winner of the Book of the Ye

My present to myself would be to visit the Yale Peabody Museum in New Haven, Connecticut. A vertebrate paleontologist there had told me that if I were ever to visit, he would set out all the fossils my great-grandfather collected in 1872. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Gradually, I realized that my curiosity was a book in the making. I finished the manuscript during the COVID-19 sequester.(less)

Where I Read

Joan Didion wrote an essay called “Why I Write.” Instead of explaining why I write (not today, anyway), I’d like to start with where I write. Most days, I'm in the living room, either at my desk or on a couch that faces three large bookcases.

A friend of mine's house burned down. After that, she adopted a one-in, one-out policy to keep from growing too attached to her books. For every new one she b
