Top 5 Reasons Why Runners Should Love Yoga

Would you like to know how I run without getting any major injuries? Yup, you guessed it … Yoga With the exception of a pulled hamstring in 2012, I haven’t suffered any injuries in the 15 years since I started running that have caused me to stop running. Knock on wood. I wholeheartedly believe the primary reason for this is because I practice yoga. In fact, the pulled hamstring I did get came when I […]

5 Things Death Taught Me About Life

I went to a funeral on Tuesday. My sister-in-law’s father passed away. He was 68, which is still relatively young. Especially since until last Thanksgiving, when he became ill, we all thought he was healthy and strong. I wasn’t very close to him, but I know he was a good man. The funeral was about 200 miles away in a small town in South Texas. The plan was to drive out early in the morning to the mass in Pleasanton, then attend the burial in San Antonio, grab a quick bite to eat and get home before five o’clock traffic. Things didn’t go exactly as planned, though. There’s nothing like death to throw a wrench into your day and make you pause and contemplate life. 5 Simple Secrets for a Happier You

I’m turning 45 next month. There was a time when I thought 45 was old. Like, ancient. It’s funny how that changes when you become the age you once thought was old. I don’t feel old, I feel young. I am young. In a lot of ways, I feel like I’m the same person I was when I was 25. Well, mostly. Like a lot of people in their mid-twenties, I used to think I had life all figured out back then. But things didn’t quite turn out as I planned. I know, it’s shocking. I’ve been through some pretty big ups and downs, and I’m sure there are more to come. That’s the thing with life, it’s what keeps things interesting. I wrote a blog post not too long ago, called Confessions from an Ex-Extrovert, about how growing older can change your outlook on things. I’m not claiming to be an expert on happiness, but in my almost 45 years on this planet, I have learned a few things that help me be a happy, optimistic person, despite the occasional …
