One of the problems I've found publishing a story that takes place in the future is that it is immediately pegged as Science Fiction. There is a category called 'low tech futuristic' but don't think it has taken root. A story about many of the same problems the world now faces (religious intolerance, racism, abortion, oppressive government) that takes place a few years in the future is not necessarily Sci-Fi.
