"Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste (not exactly true, on either count)..."... So, who the hell is Michael Thomas, and what the *&^% is THE LAST GENERATION? Well, my path to arrive to this destination has been more of an obstacle course than a traditional foot race. Even though I may look and act like everyone else, I'm a different dude. It's certainly not what I wanted out of life, but something I've had to accept.. To be, who I be.. Basically, THE LAST GENERATION was composed to understand myself better, to pin some sort of meaning onto my experiences.

In a society where our pulsation beats to a rhythm of hurry-hurry-hurry.. You know, fast food, easy answers on the internet, a magician's sleight of hand to

Would I like every household to contain a copy of my work?... Of course... However, the main motivation for writing THE LAST GENERATION was simply to understand myself better. And, I wrote it in a manner that would be most stimulating to that understanding. I decided to publish in the hope that others could understand themselves better. Hey, I may look and act like everyone else, but I'm a different dude... So, am I willing to sacrifice all this for popularity?... NO... (and I refuse to pay for phony reviews or publicity to boost my work)... Yet, I realize, I need to do a better job of breaking down the complex concepts contained within THE LAST GENERATION into more manageable terms, so that a wider audience may be able to participate (I'm a retired teacher, and that's what I did well - break down complex concepts so that the students may understand, in their terms)... But, THE LAST GENERATION will still have a limited audience... My appreciation for the interest, Matt.(less)

I shall respond with a little tete-a-tete between those voices within the ol' skullduggery.

'To uncover who I am. Why am I doing this?... To then, pass all that I've accumulated, onto the subsequent generation.'
'Nah... Fame, fortune, f******'
'You want to lower our standards, so that we may succumb to that monocle of vanity?'
'I mean, considering how few readers we've actually attracted... Perhaps, we can write a hot dog of entertainment to boost our base?'
'I hold faith that our rather tasteful, brilliant, perceptive audience will appreciate a work of intelligence, to push themselves to the brink of a new understanding. After all, shouldn't legit lit be creative and interpretive, with layers of meaning? Is there not a glee of reward to accomplishing a task through one's travailings? For, how can we uplift, unless there's an elevated style in which to ascend?' (less)

Hot Dogs and Filets

When we come home after a difficult day, we all like to kick our feet upon the coffee table, and enjoy some entertainment from the sofa. You know, a ball game, a silly movie, a television show. Yet, such is but a hot dog, filling to the appetite, but meant only to divert.
- If only hot dogs are consumed, when a filet is presented to the palate, it only settles upon that sense as an abnormality.
