We were forced to rehome our hens when we moved from urban Ann Arbor to rural Lima Township, something that still doesn't make sense to me. I recently attended my local township meeting in hopes of convincing them to update their ordinance to allow backyard chickens in residential areas. This project was a labor of love. I created the watercolor paintings over the course of several years, inspired by my family's experience raising backyard chickens in the city. Then, I embarked upon a three-year journey to publish the story!

I looked for a children's book like this when we first got chickens, as I wanted to show my kids what to expect and how to properly care for our new feathered friends. I couldn't quite find what I had in mind, and so I decided to create it myself!
