My First Book - Celia

Before I wrote AGAIN, I wrote a paranormal mystery called CELIA. It is rife with first writer's mistakes, but it was fun to write.

Here it is in its entirety (284 pp). Enjoy for free.

FILTHY LUCRE now available!

My latest is now available at Loose-Id. Here is the synopsis:

When Teddy Holliday is robbed of her last hard-earned ten dollars at a local five-and-dime, she thinks that is the worst her day can get. Later that morning when a stranger arrives seeking a room in her boarding house offering her a wad of cash, more money than she has seen in one offering, she is grateful for the salvation. Little does Teddy know that the smolderingly handsome border, one Louis Daniels, is a bank robber - and that he knows the man who earlier robbed her - Clyde Barker of the famous Bonnie and Clyde duo.

When the whole gang takes her hostage in her own home, she must find a way to escape...as well as resist the sexual charms of Louis, who is determined to win her body and soul. What follows is a potent mix of gripping fear and sexual discovery. Not to mention a natural tornado that upends her life forever.

new book - filthy lucre

I have a new book coming out in early September (tentatively September 16) entitled Filthy Lucre. Below is a synopsis:

The page at Loose Id is up and will feature an excerpt soon. You can visit the page at http://www.loose-id.com/filthy-lucre....

B.R.A.G. Medallion

I was recently informed that my book A BATTLE RAGING has been awarded the B.R.A.G. Medallion which is given out to independently published books for excellence. Needless to say, I'm excited and am awaiting the post of my book on their page. This is my very first award so I feel very honored.

UPDATE: my book is live at indieBRAG's website. Find it at http://www.bragmedallion.com/medallio...

AA Romance and Mainstream Readers

I respect the below article's premise but i've heard it before from various AA authors, particularly the late author Monica Jackson who fought for over 20 years to get respect from mainstream audiences. I've come to the conclusion in these last six years I've been "out there" publishing that certain mainstream readers (and some authors) will never respect black authors and their books. That is because race will ALWAYS be a factor. I had hoped that there would be parity in the readership since black readers have read "white" books for years as a default. But when white readers say outright they "just can't relate" and when a popular Kensington writer is an outright bigot and birther and no one calls her on it and continue to buy her books, I realize there is no hope. Ladies, you may make a decent salary from your books but don't expect to ever get to the levels of a Nora Roberts, not with the way that mainstream romance audiences are. Remember, that many in the mainstream audience are ultra-conservative in their views and black or IR love is way down

Pulling from Wayback Machine - My Elan Interview with the Late Judith Levin-Smith

Way back when, I started an ezine for women called ELAN that lasted all of a minute (or nanosecond). With only a few issues in though, I managed to write on some pivotal issues as well as conduct some very interesting interviews, one of which was with the late author Judith Levin-Smith (DO NOT GO GENTLY, THE HOODOO MAN, RECKLESS EYEBALLIN'). Thanks to the Wayback Machine, the pages of my defunct ezine are archived for perpetuity.

Below is the link to my interview with Ms. Levin-Smith which I am grateful is still accessible. It gives some insight into her writing history.
