Character interview with Kate McKnight

SPOILER ALERT! If you have not read TRIALS OF HALLION, TWO OF SWORDS, don’t read this interview. For those who have, enjoy!

Character interview: Kate McKnight, a holographic transmission via sphere.

Kate appears uncomfortable and gives me a searching look. Then she glances across a stream with a faraway expression. Appears to be summer there. She’s not eager to speak with me. Maybe she is as startled as I am to have this connection.

M: “Can you tell me what is going through your mind right now, Kate?”

K: “It’s hard to relate to this kind of situation…and I’m not comfortable with probing questions. Are you able to help us? We entered Crystal World and can’t see any road signs.”

M: “I don’t think so; it was by sheer luck that I connected with you. It looks peaceful enough around there. Is this an ordinary scenario for you?”

K: “I’m used to a whole lot more excitement in my everyday life. To say the least, it has been overwhelming to ‘save the world.’ Never expected myself to be in that kind of drama.”

M: “It makes you discover what you’re made of?”

Kate nods, a small smile on her lips. “You could say that.”

M: “Can you tell me a bit about what you learned in Hallion?”

K: Kate laughs, a sound of incredulity. “What didn’t I learn? I went from a sheltered life in New York City, a well-paying job, family, friends, you know, a pampered life to nothing but the clothes on my back as I was thrust into another world and pitted against massive evil.” She shrugs her shoulders. “Any sane person would not get into that kind of situation, but I had no choice.”

M: “What was your childhood dream, or what did you think your life would look like after you graduated from college?”

K: “I didn’t have any particular dreams; just followed in my father’s footsteps. It was almost impossible to stand up to him. Just ask my brother, Ian. But I always felt that something was missing from my life.”

M: “To get deep here, you found yourself in Hallion?”

K: “As I said, I learned everything, I was tested to the limit. I learned to be strong, to make decisions, and I experienced a deeper sense of love than I have ever experienced before.”

M: “So you believe in destiny?”

K: “I never thought I would find my destiny in Hallion, but the outcome of the battle against evil hinged on my choices, not destiny. Would I dare to face up to the challenges and step into my power? I had to, to save my companions, and Hallion. I certainly didn’t do it alone, but at times, all our futures hung on my choices. I faced my greatest fears.”

M: “What are they, if I may ask?”

Kate squirms in her seat, her fingertips rubbing her temple. “I would have to say war. Not death, but the pains of war. To see suffering is unbearable.”

M: “What is one of your pet peeves?”

K: “People who are not who they say they are. I encountered a bunch in Hallion, and now that the Law has been given to me, I can easily see anyone’s true nature.”

M: “Speaking of the Law, do you miss your double, Keitrah?”

Kate’s face turns sad, her eyes dark. “Sure I do, but she is part of me now, and so is the Silver Hawk. I think he’s the only one who can get us out of Crystal World alive. It remains to be seen. Can’t turn the clock back.”

M: “Do you miss anything, or anyone?”

Kate gives me an incredulous look. “Of course I do! I don’t miss my old life that much, but I sure want to see Ryyd again; that is if we can get back into Hallion. He is my beloved. And I would like to explore my kinship with the Amazons.” She looks sad. “Or maybe Hallion was just a dream. Maybe I will wake up back in New York.”

M: “What would you do then?”

K: “I could never go back to my previous life. When you have experienced your true abilities, there is no going back. But I would get a large mocha latte at the nearest coffee shop, that’s for sure.” She laughs.

M: “I wish I could send you one. So, what is next since Hallion is safe for the time being?”

K: “Well, we already knew that Kil Morgol was still alive, but we didn’t know he served a greater evil. I’m not ready to face that, but I would like to know why the hummingbird tattoo is glowing on Niedra’s face. I would like to help her find her kin, and then we’re out of here—hopefully.”

M: “Good luck and be safe. I will tune into from time to time. Maybe I can catch you on the ethers.”

Kate smiles. “I will turn on the sphere now and again. See you across the galaxies.”

Kate fades away, and my computer screen darkens. I would have liked to see more of Crystal World, but I’m at the mercy of Kate’s sphere. No telling when she will turn it on again.

Trials of Hallion has a sequel.

TRIALS OF HALLION, Book 2, The Darkness

TRIALS OF HALLION, Book 2, The Darkness by Maria Greene

My epic fantasy, Trials of Hallion, Two of Swords, has a sequel now titled, Trials of Hallion, The Darkness.

After defeating evil forces and retrieving the scepters that rightfully belonged to the Goddess Council, New Yorker Kate McKnight, and Jamie, the lord of the McAndrew clan, think they are done with horrifying adventures. But they find no rest as they have to travel into unknown territory to find their friends that Evil has hurled through a portal into a strange realm.

Deth and Niedra are fighting for their lives in a world that appears normal but is not. A pall of something intangible but deeply evil permeates the land as the friends go in search of answers to Niedra's mysterious past.

As they discover that she is the only living Ariecas with a live tattoo, the hunt for answers escalates even as they face deep betrayal, flying monsters, and an encroaching darkness that will tear apart their lives and provoke their deepest fears. For them to destroy The Darkness they have to use all their ingenuity, strength, and faith. The surprise ending brings to the surface all the struggles of their past as they have to make a choice―Good or Evil?

The first book in the series is FREE in all online outlets! Go grab one.
