A.G. Riddle spent ten years starting internet companies before retiring to pursue his true passion: writing fiction.

His debut novel, The Atlantis Gene, is the first book in The Origin Mystery, the trilogy that has sold a million copies in the US, is being translated into 19 languages, and is in development at CBS Films to be a major motion picture. The trilogy will be in bookstores (in hardcover and paperback) around the world in 2015.

His recently released fourth novel, Departure, follows the survivors of a flight that takes off in 2014 and crash-lands in a changed world. The hardcover will be published by HarperCollins in the fall of 2015, and 20th Century Fox is developing the novel for a feature film.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the question. My next series is going to be a proper thriller without all the sci-fi elements. I'm going to circle back to sci-fi at some point as that has been my favorite genre since I was a kid but would like to pull in more of the thriller audience. The series will mix fact with my fictional story (similar to Gene and Plague) but will take place entirely on Earth. I've been researching for my next series and writing a bit as well. Hoping to get into full writing mode soon.

Chris Slooter would be a great name for a character but if I include you then I'll have to include numerous others and that starts to get a bit tricky.

Take care,

Very glad to hear you enjoyed the series. As a kid growing up, I never missed an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation or X-Files and have to say those were a huge influence on me. They were sci fi series with complex, compelling characters that I really cared about and each episode was about a concept or idea that intrigued me intellectually. So, as a kid I was more into sports and sci fi on TV and really got into reading later in my high school and college years when I found Dan Simmons' work and others like Assimov, Crichton, Dan Brown, Douglas Preston, and David Weber.

Lately I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. A lot of books on writing and a lot of stuff by new sci fi authors (I really think we are in a golden age of new original sci fi). Andy Weir's The Martian is a great read as is Wool by Hugh Howey. Defenders by Will McIntosh and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes are worth a look.

Thanks for the questions.

Take care,
Gerry(less)

“Here’s a tip. The good guys ask you to get in the truck. The bad guys put a black bag over your head and throw you in the truck. I’m asking.”
A.G. Riddle, The Atlantis Gene

“A healthy person has a hundred wishes, but a sick person has only one.”
A.G. Riddle, Pandemic

“Science lacks something very important that religion provides: a moral code. Survival of the fittest is a scientific fact, but it is a cruel ethic; the way of beasts, not a civilized society. Laws can only take us so far, and they must be based upon something—a shared moral code that rises from something. As that moral foundation recedes, so will society’s values.”
A.G. Riddle, The Atlantis Gene
