A sneak peek at KISSES TO REMEMBER, coming in late June...

“Follow me.” Johanna led Holden into the barn and to a small half-bath where he could wash his hands.

When he finished, she blocked his exit from the bathroom by putting her hands on either side of the doorway.

“What’s this about?” He pulled her hat off, letting her waves loose. “First, you get rid of the kid. Now, you’re holding me hostage.”

“I want to thank you for fixing the tractor.”

“Do I get to choose how you thank me?” He rested his hands on her hips, and his touch awakened every part of Johanna.

“Nope, I’ve already decided.” She pulled on the neck of his T-shirt, drawing him close until his lips were level with hers. His blue eyes stared directly into her blue eyes, locked there, and caused a slow burn to creep throughout her body.

When her lips touched his, fireworks erupted in her soul.

When he touched her, she could forget he was a man who couldn’t remember his past. He was just this remarkable person she’d met. One that knew how to make her feel as if she were the most beautiful woman on the planet. One that treated her son like the great kid that he was. One that came to the rescue during tornadoes. He wasn’t a man with amnesia or a man whose employer said he didn’t work for them. He wasn’t a guy who’d survived a plane crash that had been mysteriously cleaned up.

He was simply Holden Lancaster, the perfect man.

Except when she stared back into his eyes. There she could see the unanswered questions, the frustration. The haziness of his past kept a piece of him away. Away from him. Away from her.

Holden looked to the doorway of his room where a tall, slender woman stood. Faded blue jeans with ragged cuffs covered long legs ending in flat, brown sandals on her feet. A pale green T-shirt with a picture of a heart-shaped, red rose on the front fit her torso perfectly, and a pair of dark sunglasses on top of her head held back wavy, red hair. She offered him a smile, and Holden felt more at ease than he had since waking up.

“Mind if I come in?” She gestured to the interior of his room.

“Are you Johanna?” He shifted to sit up more in the bed and smoothed the front of his hospital gown. He wished for regular clothes, but couldn’t remember what style of clothes he usually wore.

“I am Johanna.” She lifted her right leg and let her foot wiggle into the room. Her sandal dangled from her toes. “Does being Johanna gain me access?”

“Oh, sorry. Yeah, come in.” Holden waved her in then pushed his lunch aside.

Johanna stepped into the room and surveyed the contents of his tray. “Ick. Hospital food is the worst.”

“So all food doesn’t taste like that?”

“You mean like microwaved socks? Nope. This here,” she pointed to the remains of his meal, “is total shit. Food on the outside is much better. Hell, dog food on the outside is much better than this.”

“Good.” At least that was one thing he could look forward to.

“How do you feel?” Johanna set her purse down at the foot of his bed, and Holden liked the personal look of it there. As if she had truly stopped by for a visit because she knew him.

“I feel as if I’ve been abducted by aliens.”

“And it’s not as fun as you thought it would be, is it?” Johanna folded her arms across her chest, wrinkling the rose on her shirt.

“Not at all.”

When everyone had a full plate and a chunk of bread, Holden stood at his seat and cleared his throat.

“This evening is in tribute to the wonderful…”

“the amazing…” Kam added.

“the superfantasticspectacular…” Ted chimed in.

“woof…” Miles inserted.

“Johanna Ware,” Holden finished. “I know I haven’t been here as long as these other two guys, but you make me feel as if I have.”

Yeah, definitely easy to fall in love with him.

He motioned to Kam who reached under the table and presented Johanna with a neatly folded T-shirt. When she shook it out, the words, “World’s Best Everything” graced the front of it.

“We were going to make you a trophy,” Kam started, “but then no one else will know how awesome you are. This you can wear in public.” His little face beamed at her, and Johanna squeezed him around the waist.

“Thanks. All of you.” Her throat was tight as she fought not to cry like a blubbering idiot.

Holden held up his wine glass. Ted held up his, and Kam held up his glass of milk.

“To Mom!” Kam roared.
