"Rider's Block"

This is my sneaky and not-so-subtle way to let all of you beautiful people know that draft one of book two is complete—and it has a title.

A title from none other than fan favorite, Ben Andrews, who already has a bit of a big head for having the #1 review slot on my last book. So the fact that he came up with such a ridiculously good name for my next book is just going to send him to the next level. Feel free to give him kudos accordingly.

What's it about, you ask? Well, since we're in first-draft territory, I'll go ahead and share the first draft of the back cover excerpt.

"You’d think after nearly a dozen successful books under my belt, I’d know better than to write about a location site-unseen. My attempt to break into a new genre gets denied. A lot. Aggressively. Exaggerating? Sure, but it feels personal. The gauntlet has been thrown, and I can no longer avoid a trip to Cowboy Country. I will get this book published.

Heading to Colorado for three months of research is not on my bingo card for the year, but I somehow find myself in the home of Rodeo Royalty. Ideal for immersive learning, but a little less than ideal when I have a propensity to piss off the grumpiest cowboy in 100 miles. I know I’m imposing, he knows I’m imposing, but if I can just make it through the next three months without ticking him off further, that’d be great. And if we could make it through the summer without him drunkenly confessing his attraction to me, again, that’d be even better.

Serves him right for drinking my whisky. "

We're in our cowboy romance era, friends.

Net Galley: Week One

Week one on NetGalley and seeing my book out in the wild has been INSANE !!

So excited! I got some five stars, a one star for cursing and so many in between!! The full, authentic range really. I’m so stoked to see what people have enjoyed, highlighted, and quoted it’s not even funny.

I'll be rounding up some of my favorite comments and reviews to post as launch week approaches, but I feel like I’m doing it, I’m really doing it!

People have my words in their hands and it’s just the coolest feeling I didn’t know I’d get such a rush from.

But sincerely, thank you to everyone who's left a review so far! I've made some updates based on reviews that were extremely logical (switching OCD ---> Type A, going from a medical condition to a personality trait which I whole-heartedly agree with!) and actually dying at some of the quotes that people have pulled out and loved.

When people highlight a line I'm particularly proud of, I feel like I'm finding kindred spirits out there. It's all very exciting.

In other news, my author print proofs came in and I actually died at how big the font was. The print was giant enough that my nearly blind-self could likely read the book without my contacts (I'm exaggerating, but barely...ha!) So the next thing on my agenda is re-doing my first round print proofs.

Captain's Log: entry one

I'm here! I have an author's account! So many buttons to press and settings to change!

Surprisingly, short-form content is rather intimidating to me. I only have so many words to use in this blog space and my unguarded grammar is on full display. But fear not! For every misplaced comma you encounter with this blog, rest assured, my editor is swift to catch them before putting ink to paper. Digital entries allow for more flexibility, do they not? (I also resort to self-deprecating humor as a default so I couldn't really miss an opportunity to jab at myself)

My purpose for this blog is minuscule at best. I simply wish to say that I'm here on Goodreads and giddy about it, ARC copies of "Yes, Chef" are now available on NetGalley, and on August 3rd I make my way into the world as a debut author.

I wish anyone who takes the time to read this small entry the very best.

Cheers,
-Waitlyn
