The very unexpected fourth book in The Glothic Tales TrilogyQuick March, the planet Earth needs to be saved!
Not from alien attack, nuclear destruction or even being hit by a misguided comet. No, Earth needs to be saved from making millions of years of painful losses for Gloth, and it falls to March Gregorian, eldest son and heir to February the Twenty-Ninth, the Supreme Potentate of the Twelve Sun Systems of Gloth to find a way to finally make Earth profitable.
The obvious starting point in such a difficult assignment is of course to do some quick research and then ascertain the most lucrative tradable commodity a planet has to offer. Once that is clear, simply arrange to export whole lot more of it and the problem is solved.
As March prepares to make his first journey to Earth, he is sure he knows which Earth product will solve the problem.
Salmon.
Unfortunately for March, all does not go well on the Salmon front, and he discovers all too quickly that Earth is not an easy place to manage, understand, or to squeeze a profit from.
In danger of losing face with his father by returning to Gloth empty handed, March fears that his salmon failure may lead to serious doubts about his ability to remain heir to the Supreme Potentate.
Luckily however, his fears of losing his right to the throne evaporate in a flash when he stumbles upon a remarkable alternative solution.
Swedes.
Don’t panic if you haven’t read the first three Glothic Tales, as all is explained in March, so you won’t miss a trick.
Read March, the hum along, foot tapping, fourth, hilarious Glothic Tale.

Sorry, but it seems I have reached Goodreads' ridiculous limit of 5,000 friends. I would love to follow you all back, but sadly, I can't. Thanks to all of you who have sent friend requests, but know I would return your friendship, if I could.
C.J. HeckHello Derek,
It's such a pleasure having you as a friend. Thank you and best wishes!
My warmest regards,
CJ

The Few
I decided to enter a lottery this morning. I was looking for my next book to read, and in a moment of rashness, clicked on Facebook and then selected the very first Kindle free ebook that appeared in my feed. That's really called random and pot luck. Well, 10 pages into my lottery read, I can say that I'm quite impressed. I'll report back later in my reading journey.
I just finished beta reading a new book in the works by Jens Kuhn. All I can say is that I loved it!!
I've started writing the sequel to The Sons Of Cleito. It may come as shock to know that the working title is The Daughters Of Cleito. Yes, I know, lacking in imagination. :)
Thank you to all the wonderful people I have connected with on Goodreads during 2012 and a BIG thank you to those of you who have been kind enough to post reviews. I wish you all the very best for the festive season and hope you have a very Happy and prosperous 2013.

New book release! The Sons of Cleito - A new thriller by Derek Haines.Langley Garret's Sunday morning starts very badly after waking with a hangover and a depressed feeling of worthlessness, along with a foreboding sensation in his gut. With his wife working away yet again, and the realisation that their marriage is probably very close to an end, and that his life is slowly ebbing away, he ponders his misfortune.
As he decides to start accepting that his life just couldn't get any worse, over his breakfast of coffee, cold pizza and orange juice, it does, when his miserable, quiet and lonely Sunday morning is interrupted by some very nasty people who have orders to abduct him.
Available on Kindle and Smashwords.

Sadly I just discovered that Goodreads limits friends to 5,000 so as I have reached this number, I can't accept new friend requests. :(
For the romance lovers, One Last Love is finally out there on Kindle. The paperback will be coming in a few weeks. But of course, it's a Derek Haines story, so expect it to be different.
Indeed it has. For you it must be a gigantic mess because all of your publications. I wonder what prompted the change.
So it would seem that Goodreads disconnection with Amazon has made a proper mess of book covers now.
I have been on Goodreads a long time, but really I'm getting fed up with the amount of invitations to these stupid 'events'! It's really becoming a pain. Please take your events and have them somewhere else, with someone else! To a grumpy old author, an event is where there is free drinks and nibbley things. So if you're not offering this, these are not events, they are quite honestly just spam.
Vandalism of WordsThis book has gone 'Viral' on Kindle today!! Amazon have made it FREE. Well over 1,000 downloads in the last 6 hours. Get your copy while it's FREE!

Don't forget that it's Towel Day today in memory of Douglas Adams. Think I might drop Harry Potter for the evening and read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the umteenth time as a celebration of his memory.

HAL, A New Glothic Tale. Coming SoonMillions of years before February The Fifth, Gloth was making a nice little profit from the planet Erde, with the help of some cunning Popes and the very, very secret Star Chamber.
------------------------------------------------------
Being disowned by his father and booted out of his family manor in England, then transported off to the distant sun drenched shores of Australia didn’t sound like such a bad punishment for Hal. All things considered. Sydney however, didn’t prove to be his cup of tea, but a quick move to Brisbane leads Hal to a wonderful new life full of friends, back yards, barbecues, beer, surfing, The Breakfast Creek Hotel and Narelle.
The idyllic life.
For a short time unfortunately, as so often happens just when you think things are beautifully perfect, someone or something comes along to throw a spanner in the works. In Hal’s case, his idyllic life gets hit my a number of airborne wrenches. Then when he thinks things are are about as bad as they can get, they of course get a whole lot worse.
Afflicted by an allergic reaction to dust and scary things, Hal does a lot of sneezing as he goes about trying to make the whole lot worse a whole lot better.

Thanks for accepting my friend request, Derek. You seem like an interesting person, as well as quite the prolific author, so feel free to tell me more about yourself. I, myself, am a singer/songwriter/actor who has recently turned author. My 2 top ten recordings were CONCRETE & CLAY (as a singer) and NAVY BLUE (as a writer)...both in the early 1960's. My first novel is an unusual murder mystery entitled: FORBIDDEN STEPS.Regards, and have a great day, Ed

Empires rise, yet only by sowing the seeds for their downfall
The Economic Apocalypse arrives with biting venom, rapidly turning paradise into hell for those who are unfortunate enough not to be among the very few, who selfishly enrich themselves by profiting from the misery of others. It signals the beginning of the end for an empire built on greed, and for the new poor, they are sentenced to suffer the consequences.
Nathan Smith and his father, endure long, hard and tough times in a small forgotten outer suburb – yet Nathan refuses to bow to the will of the wave of evil that spreads across the country.
Instead, he thumbs his nose at the new dictatorial regime, defying their cameras and surveillance, as well as their black-suited thugs.
He taunts the government brutes; even inviting an occasional beating, because by doing so he can lay claim to small personal victories – and the opportunity to supply the thugs with what they desperately want. Drugs.
When money becomes worthless, Nathan learns to play both sides, and to trade in booze, cigarettes and drugs to survive – and to keep the thugs at bay. With the help of an unlikely ally, Nathan becomes a small-time stock keeper of all that is valuable, and tradable. Yet with his new venture comes risks and dangers that he fails to fully understand.
While life after the apocalypse is tough, unjust and sometimes even brutal, Nathan never bows his head to anyone and refuses to give in to the surveillance, intimidation and threats.
Until that is, he is suddenly implicated in the murder of a government agent, which puts a very hasty end, not only to his thriving business operation – but also to his long, yet awkward relationship with Julia, as he is forced on the run, with danger lurking at every turn.
His only hope of survival rests with the Rider, but is he friend, or foe?
