The Face of Horror

Hi everyone!

I've been involved in a contest called the Face of Horror and I just made it to the top 10 in my group! I'm so excited. The winner of the contest gets a possible walk-on role in a horror movie! They also get to spend the night in the house where Silence of the Lambs was filmed. Buffalo Bill's house! There's a photo shoot with Kane Hodder that gets published in Rue Morgue magazine! There's also a big cash prize involved. It's super exciting for a horror fan like me! It's also awesome for an author who loves to write scary stuff!

I'd love it if you could vote for me and help put me over the top! The next round is already underway!

Thanks for your help!

Red Gear 9 is Out Now!

My latest book, RED GEAR 9, is available now! It's the sequel to my first book ODD MEN OUT.

A daring prison break at Alcatraz Island sets Reeves, a former Confederate spy, on a path that can either lead him to freedom or back into war. As he and his fellow escapees struggle to make their way in a frightening new world full of airships, truces, and hordes of living dead, he finds the Office of Military Operations doggedly pursuing them. Reeves manages to stay just ahead of his pursuers thanks to his training, determination, and blind luck.

Red Gear 9 picks up mere months after the events of the first book, Odd Men Out. The airship Polk is still flying and the OMO is still determined to keep the peace along the West Coast of the United States. Three of their best officers, Cyrus, Bethy, and Lucinda race to stop the convicts before the criminals either disappear into the vast reaches of the two Americas, or they decide to burn everything down.

Launch day approaches!

Excited for my upcoming book release!

Carson of Venus: The Edge of All Worlds comes out on April 21, 2020! This is a continuation of a series that Edgar Rice Burroughs last wrote in the 1940s. I'll pick up where he left off and launch a new series of interconnected novels called The Swords of Eternity with other authors for Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc.

My latest book is now available!

Thrilled to see my new cryptid novel, White Anvil: Sasquatch Onslaught is out now!

www.mattbetts.com/white-anvil

As if the cold wasn’t enough…

Fleeing an approaching blizzard, a military train carrying prisoners and a handful of citizens derails in the mountains. The survivors fight to stay alive and regroup as the terrible storm buries them in snow. Only then do they discover the train also carried another cargo—two cars loaded with biological experiments—genetically-altered sasquatches conditioned to annihilate anything they find.

Can the few remaining soldiers team with a pair of sisters and a police constable to fight the relentless beasts, icy temperatures, and escaped prisoners long enough for help to arrive?

What they’re saying about White Anvil…
“… a fresh take on a classic legend, full of suspense and action. This one had me on the edge of my seat and loving the characters.” — Michael D. Nadeau, author of The Darkness Returns (A Lythinall novel) Book 1

“Cryptid lovers rejoice, for you have found the author who will lead you to an action-packed adventure that you will ignore family to read.” — Jonathan Lazar, Author of Zachariah Lars and the High Elf Mystery

“For those of us who grew up on Saturday morning creature features and painstakingly tuned-in to horror hosts using our dented and bent rabbit-ear antennas, Matt Betts delivers all the goods and more. WHITE ANVIL is packed with the excitement and atmosphere, but it also has what so many stories lack: Believable characters behaving rationally as they do their best to survive in the face of unexpected terror. — Dan Stout author of Titanshade

“…an action-packed adventure that you don’t want to miss.” — Sara Tantlinger, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Devil’s Dreamland

RUN to your to your computer, log on, click the bookmark for your favorite internet book source, click order White Anvil, choose your preferred shipping method, put in your payment info… and DEMAND your copy today. Henry Winkler and Dyslexia

When I was a radio reporter years ago, I interviewed Henry Winkler - he talked about Dyslexia & how it affected his career & self-esteem. Very cool that his books reach out to kids with the same problem. #amreading #amwriting #dyslexia #writingcommunity

What is Speculative Poetry?

I write speculative poetry in addition to novels. Speculative poetry is a lot like any other poetry, except that the poet can occasionally use a zombie, an alien, or a vampire to help get their point across. It doesn't have to be quite so heavy as that, the poem can stem from a new scientific discovery, space exploration, or something else firmly grounded in reality. It generally covers science fiction, horror, and fantasy, but I've also seen science fact included in some definitions as well.

Stokercon! 2019!

I'm excited to be attending Stokercon this year in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The last time I was able to go was two years ago when it was held on the Queen Mary in California. It was one of the best professional and social conferences I've been to. Tons of writers, editors, agents, and readers were there and all of them were friendly and approachable. The panels and workshops were helpful, and not too intimidating.

I highly recommend it!
