I can avoid writing for long periods while getting a lot of other things done: reading, hiking, Netflix, baking. But I'm also a binger. So when I write, I can write a lot, and pretty fast.(less)

The part of the research that I found most fascinating was about suppressed memory in PTSD and sexual assault or abuse victims. This is a very controversial topic, but I found some credible research that pulls apart the strands and terms, and shows that for some people, this is a viable coping mechanism. This is one of the things that can prolong the healing process. I wrote the book years ago, but I'm glad I did because rape is more a hot button topic in the world today than ever before. I hope more people will think about how deeply this damages its victims, and changes them forever.(less)

“How do you know who you're supposed to spend the rest of your life with?”
M.A. Clarke Scott, Reconcilable Differences

“I think you’re very effective as a mediator, from what I’ve seen so far. Your genuine empathy shows; it literally glows on your face,” he added, “and I think people sense it, and open up to you.”

“Happiness is the joy you feel striving toward your potential”
Shawn Achor, The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work

“She gasped. “You know what your problem is? You don’t take yourself… or anything… seriously enough!”
She sat rigidly, her teeth and her buttocks clenched tight, nostrils flaring with each impassioned breath, tears burning the back of her eyelids. Was she really having this debate with Bruce Koczynski? A man she believed incapable of these intense opinions and complex ideas? She didn’t even know he had the vocabulary. It was utterly disorienting.”
M. A. Clarke Scott

“How do you know who you're supposed to spend the rest of your life with?”
M.A. Clarke Scott, Reconcilable Differences

“This was no peck on the lips. This was a real first kiss, a movie-star-knock-her-socks-off-fireworks-light-up-the-sky kind of kiss.
A girl could live to be a hundred and never forget that kiss.”
Carol Fragale Brill, Peace by Piece

“Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”
E.L. Doctorow, Writers At Work: The Paris Review Interviews, 2nd Series
